Thermodynamic Constraints on Solar Wind Radial Profiles

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
In this paper, we use thermodynamics to develop the radial density profile of the solar wind, which is described by kappa distributions. First, we show the connection of kappa distributions with polytropic processes, emphasizing the two “paths”—i.e., a ...

Microgel‐Based 3D Bioprinting: A Convergent Strategy Integrating Material Design, Jamming Dynamics, and Biological Function

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Microgel‐based 3D printed constructs represent a compelling and versatile innovation for engineering architecturally complex, dynamically remodelable, and biocompatible structures with high structural fidelity and bioactivity. By integrating material design, biofabrication, and biological function, these systems enable the development of adaptive ...

Seta‐Inspired Mechano‐Intelligent Janus Bandage with Coordinated Adhesion–Contraction for Minimizing Scarring

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We developed a bioinspired mechano‐intelligent Janus bandage (MIB) with a hydrophobic flat exterior and a hydrophilic interior featuring gecko‐mimicking wedged microstructures, fabricated via micromolding and anisotropic plasma treatment. The MIB dynamically synchronizes adhesion and contraction, enabling precise force modulation.

A statistical analysis of the Kappa-type energy spectrum distribution of radiation belt electrons observed by Van Allen Probes

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Physics
The energy spectrum of energetic electrons is a key factor representing the dynamic variations of Earth’s Van Allen radiation belts. Increased measurements have indicated that the commonly used Maxwellian and Kappa distributions are inadequate for ...

Kappa distribution in the presence of a potential energy

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2015
AbstractThe present paper develops the theory and formulations of the kappa distributions that describe particle systems characterized by a nonzero potential energy. As yet, kappa distributions were used for the statistical description of the velocity or kinetic energy of particles but not of the potential energy.

POM‐Based Water Splitting Catalyst Under Acid Conditions Driven by Its Assembly on Carbon Nanotubes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A newly‐engineered POM‐based electrocatalyst incorporating non‐innocent counter cations exhibits fast kinetics for either the OER or HER under strongly acidic conditions (1 m H2SO4), depending on whether it is assembled on carbon nanotubes (1@CNT) or physically mixed with them (1/CNT). In water‐splitting tests using a two‐electrode setup, these systems

Intelligent Acousto‐Electrical Metamaterials (IAM) for Sound Source Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Our proposed metamaterial concept enables sound source detection using a single material, in contrast to conventional arrays that require dozens or even hundreds of transducers. We show that the coupled acoustic–vibrational–electrical responses in piezoelectric metamaterials give rise to topology‐governed charge transport, producing distinct voltage ...

Heat-flux Instabilities of Regularized Kappa Distributed Strahl Electrons Resolved with ALPS

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The fluid behavior of the solar wind is affected by the heat flux carried by the suprathermal electron populations, especially the electron strahl (or beam) that propagates along the magnetic field.

The subtracted-kappa distribution and its properties

open access: yesPhysics of Plasmas
We introduce a new particle distribution function in plasma physics called the subtracted-kappa (S-K) distribution. This new distribution incorporates a loss-cone feature and an enhanced high-energy tail characterized by the spectral index κ. The S-K distribution is a generalization of the well-known subtracted-Maxwellian and approaches the latter ...
