Effects of washing method on the bagasse pulping characteristics by Sulfur Dioxide- Ethanol-Water (SEW) process [PDF]
SO2-ethanol-water (SEW) pulping can be considered a hybrid between solvent and acid sulfite pulping processes. Recently this process in order to separation the principal components (cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignin) have been considered.

Phase transitions in the condition number distribution of Gaussian random matrices
We study the statistics of the condition number $\kappa=\lambda_{\mathrm{max}}/\lambda_{\mathrm{min}}$ (the ratio between largest and smallest squared singular values) of $N\times M$ Gaussian random matrices.

More on Compactness of Chromatic Numbers [PDF]
We prove that for any regular kappa and mu > kappa below the first fix point (lambda = aleph_lambda) above kappa, there is a graph with chromatic number > kappa, and mu^kappa nodes but every subgraph of cardinality < mu has chromatic number less than or ...

Local Interactions and Protein Folding: A Model Study on the Square and Triangular Lattices
We study a simple heteropolymer model containing sequence-independent local interactions on both square and triangular lattices. Sticking to a two-letter code, we investigate the model for varying strength $\kappa$ of the local interactions; $\kappa=0 ...

Impact of impregnation on high kappa number hardwood pulps
Mixed US southern hardwood chips were impregnated and cooked under various conditions in the laboratory. Kappa numbers between 15 and 55 were obtained. The reject content, kappa number, and yield were studied as a function of time, temperature, and alkali charge in the cooking.

The impact of kappa number composition on eucalyptus kraft pulp bleachability [PDF]
Consumption of chemicals during ECF bleaching of kraft pulp correlates reasonably well with kappa number, which measures with KMnO4 the total amount of oxidizable material in the pulp. However, the method does not distinguish between the oxidizable material in residual lignin and other structures susceptible to oxidation, such as hexenuronic acids ...

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Elman Network in Kappa Number Prediction
Abstract Abstract Variations in the pulp quality are mainly due to variations in the quality of wood chips used for pulping. Moisture content of chips, chip size and chip composition vary, and the measurements to reflect these variations do not always exist.

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...
