Influence of the chemical composition of kenaf bast and core on the alkaline pulping response
Journal of Wood Science, 2001 The bast and core of kenaf,Hibiscus cannabinus L., have markedly different chemical components and alkaline cooking responses. The bast had about double the hot-water extractives content and only about half the lignin content of the core. The core contained a large amount of hemicellulose, mostly composed of xylan.

Development of a new kenaf bast fiber-reinforced thermoplastic polyurethane composite
BioResources, 2011 A composite of themoplastic polyurethane (TPU) reinforced with short kenaf (Hibiscus Cannabinus L.) fiber (KF) was prepared by a melt-mixing method. Mixing was followed by compression molding to produce sheets for specimen cutting. Five samples were cut from the composite sheet. A mean value was taken for each sample according to ASTM standards.
