Factors related to nurse compliance in monitoring infusion fluid in hospital

open access: yesHealthcare in Low-resource Settings
Infusion therapy involves the intravenous administration of drugs, fluids, and blood products to hospitalized clients. This study aimed to identify factors influencing nurse compliance in monitoring infusion fluids according to Standard Operating ...

Kendall's tau for autocorrelation

open access: yes, 1999
The authors show how Kendall's tau can be adapted to test against serial dependence in a univariate time series context. They provide formulas for the mean and variance of circular and non-circular versions of this statistic, and they prove its asymptotic normality.

Kendall's Tau for Functional Data Analysis

open access: yes, 2019
We treat the problem of testing for association between a functional variable belonging to Hilbert space and a scalar variable. Particularly, we propose a distribution-free test statistic based on Kendall's Tau which is one of the most popular methods to determine the association between two random variables.

Corneal power modelling with OCT data – Thin and thick lens paraxial models versus raytracing

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Evaluating keratometric power with Zeiss index (PKZ), paraxial thick cornea power (Gullstrand [PG]) and power referenced to the front (PFV) and back vertex plane (PBV) and raytracing power (PR), and modelling the deviation from PKZ with a multivariable linear prediction model.

Laypeople's Views on the Narrative Identity and Societal Treatment of Genetically Modified People

open access: yesBioethics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Genome editing in human embryos could raise new ethical issues by changing future people's narrative and numerical identity. Most philosophers agree that some genetic modifications would have larger effects on identity than others, but they disagree on what criteria might explain these differences and have not supported their claims ...

Relationship Between Kendall's tau Correlation and Mutual Information

open access: yesRevista Colombiana de Estadística, 2020
Mutual information (MI) can be viewed as a measure of multivariate association in a random vector. However, the estimation of MI is difficult since the estimation of the joint probability density function (PDF) of non Gaussian distributed data is a hard problem.

Parameters behind "nonparametric" statistics: Kendall's tau,Somers' D and median differences [PDF]

open access: yes
So-called "nonparametric" statistical methods are often in fact based on population parameters, which can be estimated (with confidence limits) using the corresponding sample statistics.

Pre‐service teachers' explicit and implicit stereotypes towards pupils with different special educational needs

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Successful inclusion in education depends heavily on the attitudes of teachers, and stereotypes play a significant role in shaping these attitudes. However, social desirability bias may limit direct measures of stereotypes. Combining direct and indirect measures offers better insights.

A novel index to measure pre‐planning in the Tower of London task: Test–retest reliability and known‐group validity

open access: yesBritish Journal of Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract The Tower of London (TOL) is a planning task frequently used in clinical settings and research. Planning and execution times are the most common outcome variables despite yielding lower effect sizes in clinical group comparisons and lower test–retest reliability than planning accuracy. Here, it is proposed that planning time be analysed not in
