Biofunctional approaches of wool-based keratin for tissue engineering
The use of bioactive materials has become a standard tool in the arsenal of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. Bioactive materials have gained great attention due to their ability to mimic tissues physically, chemically and ...

Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a common form of hair loss with limited treatment options. Silencing of WNT5A signaling, which is widely known as the trigger of the ncWNT signaling pathway, happens in hair follicle stem cells from balding areas. It leads to downregulation of ATF3 and its target FOSB.

A CD146 FACS Protocol Enriches for Luminal Keratin 14/19 Double Positive Human Breast Progenitors
Human breast cancer is believed to arise in luminal progenitors within the normal breast. A subset of these are double positive (DP) for basal and luminal keratins and localizes to a putative stem cell zone within ducts.

Specific Interaction of the Actin-binding Domain of Dystrophin with Intermediate Filaments Containing Keratin 19 [PDF]
Cytokeratins 8 and 19 concentrate at costameres of striated muscle and copurify with the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex, perhaps through the interaction of the cytokeratins with the actin-binding domain of dystrophin. We overexpressed dystrophin's actin-binding domain (Dys-ABD), K8 and K19, as well as closely related proteins, in COS-7 cells to assess

A novel geometry‐resolved membrane platform provides a seamlessly integrated pipeline for studying curvature‐sensing proteins. By linking shotgun proteomics with quantitative imaging, this approach enables both the unbiased discovery and rigorous validation of novel sensors across the entire curvature range—positive, negative, and zero.

The Tissue-dependent Keratin 19 Gene Transcription Is Regulated by GKLF/KLF4 and Sp1
Keratins play critical roles in cellular differentiation and cytoskeletal organization. Keratin 19 (K19) is unique because it has been implicated as a marker of stem cells in some tissues, such as the hair follicle in the skin. It is also associated with malignant transformation in esophageal and pancreatic cancers.

The New Keratin Nomenclature [PDF]
When the first nomenclature of the keratin protein family was published over 20 years ago, only 19 keratins were thought to exist. Sequencing of the human genome has now revealed that there are 54 keratin genes.

Hypertrophic scar fibroblasts membrane‐hybridized cationic transfersomes enable efficient loading and transdermal delivery of TGF‐β1 siRNA through multiple skin penetration pathways. The biomimetic platform enhances homotypic targeting, transfection, and immune evasion, suppresses TGF‐β1‐driven fibrotic signaling, and reduces extracellular matrix ...
