Keratin 19 Epithelial Patterns in Cirrhotic Stroma Parallel Hepatocarcinogenesis [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Journal of Pathology, 2011
Cirrhotic septa harbor vessels and inflammatory, fibrogenic, and ductular epithelial cells, collectively referred to as the ductular reaction (DR). Lack of the DR in the stromal compartment around hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has been documented; however, the relationship of epithelial keratin 19 (K19) structures to progression of intralesional ...

No difference in keratin thickness between inner and outer foreskins from elective male circumcisions in Rakai, Uganda. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
It has been hypothesized that increased HIV acquisition in uncircumcised men may relate to a more thinly keratinized inner foreskin. However, published data are contradictory and potentially confounded by medical indications for circumcision.

Keratin 19 expression correlates with poor prognosis in breast cancer [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Biology Reports, 2014
Breast cancer expression profiling has been used for determining biomarkers. Using gene expression profiles of 2,400 patients we identified keratin 19 (KRT19) as a highly deregulated gene in breast cancer. KRT19 expression is independent of patient race but correlates with disease grade, and ER, PR or HER2 expression.

HNRNPK is retained in the cytoplasm by Keratin 19 to stabilize target mRNAs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Abstract Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein K (HNRNPK) regulates pre-mRNA processing and long non-coding RNA localization in the nucleus. It was previously shown that shuttling of HNRNPK to the cytoplasm promotes cell proliferation and cancer metastasis. However, the mechanism of HNRNPK cytoplasmic localization, its cytoplasmic RNA

Keratin 19, a Cancer Stem Cell Marker in Human Hepatocellular Carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Cancer Research, 2015
Abstract Purpose: Keratin 19 (K19) is a known marker of poor prognosis and invasion in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the relationship between K19 and cancer stem cells (CSCs) is unclear. Here, we determined whether K19 can be used as a new CSC marker and therapeutic target in HCC. Experimental Design:

An Integrative Bioinformatic Analysis for Keratinase Detection in Marine-Derived Streptomyces

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2021
Keratinases present promising biotechnological applications, due to their ability to degrade keratin. Streptomyces appears as one of the main sources of these enzymes, but complete genome sequences of keratinolytic bacteria are still limited.

The Adjuvant Therapy Influence upon Micrometastasis in Bone Marrow Aspiration and Detection of Relapse Rate in Breast Cancer Patients Follow up [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Hematology-Oncology and Stem Cell Research, 2010
"nIntroduction: Breast cancers in the early phase frequently undergo distant metastasis and survival of patients is greatly dependent on distant metastasis.

The Tumor Markers Tpa, Tps, Tpa and Cyfra 21–1 React Differently with the Keratins 8, 18 and 19

open access: yesThe International Journal of Biological Markers, 1994
The commercially available tumor marker tests TPA, TPS, TPA CYK and CYFRA 21–1 react with simple epithelium keratins. From clinical studies it can be deduced that the pattern of keratin recognition must be different for each of these tests.

Blackcurrant Extract with Phytoestrogen Activity Alleviates Hair Loss in Ovariectomized Rats

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Ancocyanin-rich blackcurrant extract (BCE) has phytoestrogen activity; however, its effect on hair follicles is unknown. Additionally, hair loss is known to occur during menopause in women owing to decreased estrogen secretion.

Keratin 19 protein expression is an independent predictor of survival in human hepatocellular carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, 2015
We aimed to assess the clinicopathological relevance and prognostic significance of expression of the hepatic progenitor cell markers keratin 19 (K19), epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) and CD117 (c-KIT) in a White series of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).We evaluated the immunohistochemical expression of K19, EpCAM and CD117 in 89 surgical ...
