The Tumor Markers Tpa, Tps, Tpa and Cyfra 21–1 React Differently with the Keratins 8, 18 and 19

open access: yesThe International Journal of Biological Markers, 1994
The commercially available tumor marker tests TPA, TPS, TPA CYK and CYFRA 21–1 react with simple epithelium keratins. From clinical studies it can be deduced that the pattern of keratin recognition must be different for each of these tests.

Blackcurrant Extract with Phytoestrogen Activity Alleviates Hair Loss in Ovariectomized Rats

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Ancocyanin-rich blackcurrant extract (BCE) has phytoestrogen activity; however, its effect on hair follicles is unknown. Additionally, hair loss is known to occur during menopause in women owing to decreased estrogen secretion.

Keratin-Butyrate Scaffolds Promote Skin Wound Healing in Diabetic Rats Through Down-Regulation of IL-1β and Up-Regulation of Keratins 16 and 17

open access: yes, 2022
Impaired wound healing particularly in diabetics creates a significant healthcare burden. The study aimed to evaluate the effect of keratin-butyrate fibers (FKDP +0.1%NaBu) in a full-thickness skin wound model in 30 diabetic rats.

Influences of Desmin and Keratin 19 on Passive Biomechanical Properties of Mouse Skeletal Muscle [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biomedicine and Biotechnology, 2012
In skeletal muscle fibers, forces must be transmitted between the plasma membrane and the intracellular contractile lattice, and within this lattice between adjacent myofibrils. Based on their prevalence, biomechanical properties and localization, desmin and keratin intermediate filaments (IFs) are likely to participate in structural connectivity and ...

Clinical and Prognostic Significances of Cytokeratin 19 and KIT Expression in Surgically Resectable Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Pathology and Translational Medicine, 2015
Background: Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs) are malignant endocrine neoplasms that present diverse clinical behaviors. Therefore, identification of biomarkers of PanNETs is important for stratification of the prognosis of PanNET patients ...

Similarities in DSG1 and KRT3 Downregulation through Retinoic Acid Treatment and PAX6 Knockdown Related Expression Profiles: Does PAX6 Affect RA Signaling in Limbal Epithelial Cells?

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2021
Congenital PAX6-aniridia is a rare panocular disease resulting from limbal stem cell deficiency. In PAX6-aniridia, the downregulation of the retinol-metabolizing enzymes ADH7 (All-trans-retinol dehydrogenase 7) and ALDH1A1/A3 (Retinal dehydrogenase 1 ...

Immunohistochemical Demonstration of Keratin 19 Expression in Isolated Human Hair Follicles

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1994
We examined keratins 19 and 8 in extracted human hair follicles using monoclonal antibodies Ks19.1 and CAM5.2, respectively. Ks19.1 reactivity was found in the bulge and infundibulum. Ks19.1(+) cells were dense in the bulge of vellus and intermediate hair follicles. The intact bulge of terminal hair could not be extracted, but the presence of Ks19.1(+)

Keratin 19 protein expression is an independent predictor of survival in human hepatocellular carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, 2015
We aimed to assess the clinicopathological relevance and prognostic significance of expression of the hepatic progenitor cell markers keratin 19 (K19), epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) and CD117 (c-KIT) in a White series of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).We evaluated the immunohistochemical expression of K19, EpCAM and CD117 in 89 surgical ...
