Genotype–Phenotype Correlations in Corneal Dystrophies: Advances in Molecular Genetics and Therapeutic Insights

open access: yesClinical &Experimental Ophthalmology, Volume 53, Issue 3, Page 232-245, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Corneal dystrophies are a group of predominantly rare inherited disorders. They are by definition bilateral, relatively symmetrical, and without systemic involvement, affecting corneal transparency and/or refraction. Traditional classification of corneal dystrophies is based on slit‐lamp appearance, affected corneal layer and histological ...

Unlocking Vision Care Accessibility: Evaluating Caregivers' Willingness to Pay in Specialised Eye Clinics for Family Members With Intellectual Disabilities

open access: yesJournal of Intellectual Disability Research, Volume 69, Issue 4, Page 283-297, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Background People with intellectual disabilities (IDs) require more vision care but encounter considerable challenges during eye examinations. Specialised clinics established specifically for people with IDs are generally limited. This study aims to evaluate primary family caregivers' willingness to pay (WTP) for specialised ophthalmology ...

Revisiting the Link Between Keratoconus and Mitral Valve Prolapse

open access: yesCardiogenetics
Keratoconus is a progressive eye disease that results in thinning of the cornea, leading to visual impairment. Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is a common disorder affecting around 2–4% of the general population.

Comparative Performance Analysis of Transformer-Based Pre-Trained Models for Detecting Keratoconus Disease [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
This study compares eight pre-trained CNNs for diagnosing keratoconus, a degenerative eye disease. A carefully selected dataset of keratoconus, normal, and suspicious cases was used. The models tested include DenseNet121, EfficientNetB0, InceptionResNetV2, InceptionV3, MobileNetV2, ResNet50, VGG16, and VGG19.
