The Effect of Keratolytic Agents on the Permeability of Three Imidazole Antimycotic Drugs Through the Human Nail

Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 1998
The permeability of three imidazole antimycotics (miconazole nitrate, ketoconazole, and itraconazole) through the free edge of healthy human nail was evaluated in vitro using side-by-side diffusion cells. The influence of keratolytic substances (papain, urea, and salicylic acid) on the permeability of the antimycotics was also studied.

?Keratolytic? effect of salicylic acid

Archives for Dermatological Research, 1977
The "keratolytic" effect of salicylic acid was examined in guinea-pig skin. Using a fluorescent staining method the str. corneum cells could be seen to rapidly become detached. The cellular walls remained unchanged. This drug therefore appears to primarily reduce the intercellular cohesiveness of the horny cells.

Cutaneous bioassay of salicylic acid as a keratolytic

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2005
Keratolytic efficacy of topical preparations containing salicylic acid was studied in humans utilizing adhesive tape stripping and quantifying SC removal by protein analysis. In combination with tape stripping, squamometry was used to evaluate the influence of salicylic acid on skin surface scaliness and desquamation.
