Interaction of keratolytic drug, salicylic acid with dipalmitoyl phosphatidylethanolamine vesicles

open access: closedPhase Transitions, 2008
Salicylic acid (SA), a keratolytic drug, is used to treat skin disorder like corns, warts, and acne. To understand the mechanism by which SA interacts with the cell membranes, we have investigated its interaction with dipalmitoyl phosphatidylethanolamine (DPPE) vesicles using DSC, 1H NMR and Raman spectroscopy. Presence of drug asymmetrically broadened

?Keratolytic? effect of salicylic acid

Archives for Dermatological Research, 1977
The "keratolytic" effect of salicylic acid was examined in guinea-pig skin. Using a fluorescent staining method the str. corneum cells could be seen to rapidly become detached. The cellular walls remained unchanged. This drug therefore appears to primarily reduce the intercellular cohesiveness of the horny cells.

Emollients, moisturizers, and keratolytic agents in psoriasis

Clinics in Dermatology, 2008
Emollients, moisturizers, and keratolytic agents are essential in the topical treatment of psoriasis. They are adjuvants for classic treatments and help to reduce the scale load of individual patients. The major role for emollients and moisturizers is the supportive role in normalizing hyperproliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis; furthermore ...
