Development and validation of BCG vaccine‐induced novel granulomatous liver injury preclinical animal model

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
The study successfully developed and validated a granulomatous liver injury model using a high‐dose BCG vaccine, simulating hepatic tuberculosis and autoimmune granulomatous liver diseases. Pharmacokinetic analysis examined the metabolic behavior of first‐line antitubercular drugs (isoniazid and rifampicin) and their main metabolites under conditions ...

Novel nano‐hydroxyapatite coating of additively manufactured three‐dimensional porous implants improves bone ingrowth and initial fixation

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, Volume 111, Issue 2, Page 453-462, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Electron beam melting (EBM) has been used to fabricate three‐dimensional (3D) porous Ti‐6Al‐4V surfaces for acetabular cups in total hip arthroplasty. However, there are radiographic concerns regarding poor implant fixation and bone ingrowth around electron beam melted (EBMed) 3D porous cups.

Description of unilateral kidney embolism and contralateral nephrectomy as a less invasive remnant kidney model in cats; a proof‐of‐concept study

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Unilateral, minimally invasive, renal arterial embolization and delayed contralateral nephrectomy was described in cats as a novel remnant kidney model of chronic kidney disease using two doses of embolic particles. Renal function declined and characteristic histopathological markers of kidney disease were present 6 months after the embolism procedure.

Reduced Bone Mass and Increased Osteocyte Tartrate‐Resistant Acid Phosphatase (TRAP) Activity, But Not Low Mineralized Matrix Around Osteocyte Lacunae, Are Restored After Recovery From Exogenous Hyperthyroidism in Male Mice

open access: yesJournal of Bone and Mineral Research, Volume 38, Issue 1, Page 131-143, January 2023., 2023
ABSTRACT Hyperthyroidism causes secondary osteoporosis through favoring bone resorption over bone formation, leading to bone loss with elevated bone fragility. Osteocytes that reside within lacunae inside the mineralized bone matrix orchestrate the process of bone remodeling and can themselves actively resorb bone upon certain stimuli.

Disruption of the blood–brain barrier contributes to neurobehavioral changes observed in rheumatic heart disease

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Sydenham's chorea (SC) is the neurological manifestation associated with acute rheumatic fever (ARF), triggered by a group A streptococcal (GAS) infection. Anti‐GAS antibodies cross‐reacting with tissue proteins are implicated in the development of neurological changes. In this study, using an animal model, we demonstrate that a compromised blood–brain

HU308 Mitigates Osteoarthritis by Stimulating Sox9‐Related Networks of Carbohydrate Metabolism

open access: yesJournal of Bone and Mineral Research, Volume 38, Issue 1, Page 154-170, January 2023., 2023
ABSTRACT Osteoarthritis (OA) is characterized by progressive, irreversible erosion of articular cartilage accompanied by severe pain and immobility. This study aimed to assess the effect and mechanism of action of HU308, a selective cannabinoid receptor type 2 (CB2) agonist, in preventing OA‐related joint damage. To test the assumption that HU308 could

Ketamine restriction correlates with reduced cholestatic liver injury and improved outcomes in critically ill patients with burn injury

open access: yesJHEP Reports
Background & Aims: Ketamine-associated cholestatic liver injury is reported in patients with severe burn injury, but its association with patient outcome is unclear. We investigated the relationship between ketamine exposure, cholestatic liver injury,
