Fertilization in plants: Is calcium a key player?

Seminars in Cell & Developmental Biology, 2006
For many years, the physiological significance of Ca(2+) oscillations has been a matter of debate, but the potential to encode and transduce information in the pattern of an oscillation is obvious. In this review, we only consider transients and oscillations observed during fertilization in plants with the major focus on flowering plants.

Plant key usage

Journal of Agronomic Education, 1984
ABSTRACTA general understanding of plant morphology and associated terminology, coupled with the ability to use plant keys, should enable students to identify previously unknown plants in a rapid and efficient manner. A slide/tape program, entitled “Plant Key Usage,” has been developed to help students learn to use bifurcated plant keys.

Plant taxonomic keys repository

2011 International Conference on Research and Innovation in Information Systems, 2011
Biologists have huge collections of voucher herbarium specimens. The information collected from the voucher is used to produce plant taxonomic keys for species identification. Most biologists keep the plant taxonomic keys information in separate databases. Each database stores the taxonomic keys for one plant family.

Plant Self-Incompatibility: The key to specificity

Current Biology, 1994
Experiments with transgenic plants provide strong evidence that the locus controlling the female side of recognition in self-incompatibility has been correctly identified, and supoort the view that a ribonuclease is involved.
