Synthetic O‐Polysaccharide Backbone Units for a Single Antigen Vaccine Against Two Major Non‐Typhoidal Salmonella Serovars

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A modular strategy was developed to synthesize tri‐, hexa‐, and nona‐saccharides representing repeating units of the conserved O‐polysaccharide backbone of Salmonella. Conjugates of these glycans to bacteriophage Qβ induced strong IgG responses in mice and rabbits. Antibodies elicited recognized native O‐polysaccharides and conferred protection against

The Efficacy and Safety of <2 cm Micro-Keyhole Microvascular Decompression for Hemifacial Spasm

open access: yesFrontiers in Surgery, 2021
Objective: Microvascular decompression (MVD) surgery has been accepted as a minimally invasive surgical modality for the treatment of hemifacial spasm (HFS). However, the size of the bone window does not match the concept of minimally invasive.

Laser Spot Micro-Welding of Ultra-Thin Steel Sheet

open access: yesMicromachines, 2021
This paper reports a mechanism understanding how to reduce the solder joint failure phenomenon in the laser spot micro-welding process of ultra-thin steel sheets. An optimization method to improve solder joint service life is proposed. In this study, the

Robust process-controller for Nd:YAG welding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A robust process-controller was developed which maintains a fully penetrated weld. This feedback-controller is robust for various process disturbances that may occur, like variations in sheet thickness, welding velocity, focal position, shielding gas ...

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Plasma Charge Current for Controlling and Monitoring Electron Beam Welding with Beam Oscillation

open access: yesSensors, 2012
Electron beam welding (EBW) shows certain problems with the control of focus regime. The electron beam focus can be controlled in electron-beam welding based on the parameters of a secondary signal.

A New Scintillator Tile/Fiber Preshower Detector for the CDF Central Calorimeter

open access: yes, 2004
A detector designed to measure early particle showers has been installed in front of the central CDF calorimeter at the Tevatron. This new preshower detector is based on scintillator tiles coupled to wavelength-shifting fibers read out by multi-anode ...

Hazardous near Earth asteroid mitigation campaign planning based on uncertain information on fundamental asteroid characteristics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Given a limited warning time, an asteroid impact mitigation campaign would hinge on uncertainty-based information consisting of remote observational data of the identified Earth-threatening object, general knowledge of near-Earth asteroids (NEAs), and ...

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

A simplistic approach to keyhole plan recognition [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
When applying plan recognition to Human - Computer Interaction, one must cope with users exhibiting a large amount of reactive behaviour: users that change tasks, or change strategies for achieving tasks.
