Detection of general edges and keypoints

1992
A computational framework for extracting (1) edges with an arbitrary profile function and (2) keypoints such as corners, vertices and terminations is presented. Using oriented filters with even and odd symmetry we combine their convolution outputs to oriented energy resulting in a unified representation of edges, lines and combinations thereof.

Edge and keypoint detection in facial regions

Proceedings of the Second International Conference on Automatic Face and Gesture Recognition, 2002
The authors introduce a method for the automatic detection of facial features and characteristic anatomical keypoints. In the application they are aiming at the anatomical landmarks are used to accurately measure facial features. Their approach is essentially bused on a selective search and sequential tracking of characteristic edge and line structures

An Affordance Keypoint Detection Network for Robot Manipulation

IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters, 2021
This letter investigates the addition of keypoint detections to a deep network affordance segmentation pipeline. The intent is to better interpret the functionality of object parts from a manipulation perspective. While affordance segmentation does provide label information about the potential use of object parts, it lacks predictions on the physical ...

Robust Keypoint Detection Using Dynamics

2013
In this paper we present a keypoint detector based on the bimodality of the histograms of oriented gradients (HOGs). We compute the bimodality of each HOG, and a bimodality image is constructed from the result of this bimodality test. The maxima with highest dynamics of the image obtained are selected as robust keypoints.

Descriptor-Driven Keypoint Detection

2018 Digital Image Computing: Techniques and Applications (DICTA), 2018
A methodology is proposed (and illustrated on exemplary cases) for detecting keypoints in such a way that usability of those keypoints in image matching tasks can be potentially maximized. Following the approach used for MSER detection, we localize keypoints at image patches for which the selected keypoint descriptor is maximally stable under ...

TKDN: Scene Text Detection via Keypoints Detection

2019
In the past few years, great efforts have been devoted to scene text detection. Nevertheless, efficient text detection in the wild remains a challenging problem. Methods for general object detection usually have limitations in handling the arbitrary orientations and large aspect ratios of scene text.

Hierarchical filtering scheme for the detection of facial keypoints

1997 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2002
Usually, the first processing step in computer vision systems consists of a spatial convolution with only a few simple filters. Therefore, information is lost of it is not represented explicitly for the following processing steps. This paper proposes a new hierarchical filter scheme that can efficiently synthesize the responses for a large number of ...

Detecting interpretable and accurate scale-invariant keypoints

2009 IEEE 12th International Conference on Computer Vision, 2009
This paper presents a novel method for detecting scale invariant keypoints. It fills a gap in the set of available methods, as it proposes a scale-selection mechanism for junction-type features. The method is a scale-space extension of the detector proposed by Forstner (1994) and uses the general spiral feature model of Bigun (1990) to unify different ...

Fractional order method of image keypoints detection

2017 Signal Processing: Algorithms, Architectures, Arrangements, and Applications (SPA), 2017
In this paper we propose a novel efficient method of characteristic image point detection based on the fractional order derivative. The concept of this approach called (FSIFT: Fractional-SIFT) is inspired by the Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) proposed by Lowe and can be viewed as a certain generalization of this formula.

Keypoint Detection Based on the Unimodality Test of HOGs

2012
We present a new method for keypoint detection. The main drawback of existing methods is their lack of robustness to image distortions. Small variations of the image lead to big differences in keypoint localizations.
