Intraoral Drug Delivery: Bridging the Gap Between Academic Research and Industrial Innovations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intraoral drug delivery offers a promising route for systemic and localized therapies, yet challenges such as enzymatic degradation, limited permeability, and microbial interactions hinder efficacy. This figure highlights innovative strategies—mucoadhesive materials, enzyme inhibitors, and permeation enhancers—to overcome these barriers.

Prognostic prediction and immunotherapy response analysis of the fatty acid metabolism-related genes in clear cell renal cell carcinoma

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is a common urinary cancer. Although diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for ccRCC have been improved, the survival outcomes of patients with advanced ccRCC remain unsatisfactory.

Double Cross‐Linked Hydrogel for Intra‐articular Injection as Modality for Macrophages Metabolic Reprogramming and Therapy of Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hydrogel for intra‐articular injection for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is formulated and comprehensively studied. After administration, the hydrogel induces a metabolic reprogramming of immunometabolism of macrophages to trigger fatty acid oxidation subsequently inducing polarization of anti‐inflammatory M2 macrophages. This results in

Chronic kidney disease

open access: yesSouth African Medical Journal, 2015
It is known that, for many reasons, general practitioners(GPs) find renal disease difficult to diagnose, understandand treat. The terms chronic kidney disease (CKD) andglomerular filtration rate (GFR), representing the renalfunction equation, have been introduced to clarify someof these difficulties.

A Comparison of the Mechanical Properties of ECM Components and Synthetic Self‐Assembling Peptides

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐assembling peptide hydrogels are increasingly utilized in biomedical applications. The authors review the key mechanical properties of these structures across multiple size scales and compare them to that of native extracellular matrix components, which are found to display a much wider range of structural attributes.

FXa‐Responsive Hydrogels to Craft Corneal Endothelial Lamellae

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a sacrificial, multicomponent biohybrid hydrogel system enabling stable scaffold‐free tissue engineering. Its efficacy is demonstrated through the ex vivo development, detachment, and transplantation of human corneal endothelial lamellae, achieving clinically relevant sizes for Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty.
