Outcome of extra mucosal single interrupted layer (EMSIL) ileo-ileal anastomosis in urinary diversions during open radical cystectomy

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Urology, 2023
Background We intended to assess the outcome of extra-mucosal single interrupted layer ileo-ileal anastomosis for bowel re-approximation in open radical cystectomy with urinary diversions.

Laparoscopic Kidney Transplantation

open access: yesEuropean Urology, 2010
We present the details of the first laparoscopic transplantation of a kidney from a living, related donor, performed April 16, 2009. Surgical and functional results were acceptable. Surgical time was 240 min (53 min for vascular suture), with blood loss of 300 cm(3) and a hospital stay of 14 d. Serum creatinine at discharge was 73 mmol/l.

Cardiac Organoid Model Inspired Micro‐Robot Smart Patch to Treat Myocardial Infarction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The heart organoid model exhibits the acidic microenvironment characteristic of myocardial infarction, which emerges as a pivotal force propelling the movement of micro‐robots. These micro‐robots, administered through microneedles, can penetrate deep into the tissue, effectively delivering therapeutic payloads to facilitate heart repair.

Non-oliguric acute renal failure secondary to a potentially lethal dose of caffeine with acute intoxication: a case report

open access: yesBMC Nephrology
Background Recently, the incidence of caffeine intoxication has been on an upward trend, with severe outcomes. However, acute kidney injury (AKI) resulting from renal pathologies secondary to caffeine intoxication is rare, and the pathophysiological ...

Long term simulation analysis of deceased donor initiated chains in kidney exchange programs [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Kidney exchange programs have been developed to find compatible kidneys for recipients who have incompatible donors. On the other hand, patients who do not have a living donor depend upon deceased donor (DD) donations to get a kidney transplant. Currently, in India a deceased donor donates kidneys directly to a deceased donor wait-list.

Hypothetical Treatment Accelerations: Estimating Causal Effects of Kidney Transplants from Observational Data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Patients with end-stage kidney disease can expect to wait for several years before they receive a transplant, all the while their health deteriorates. How would the survival change if we managed to reduce these waiting times? To provide an answer, we present a continuous-time marginal structural model (MSM) of hypothetical scenarios in which the time ...

Kidney Transplantation 2: Care of the Kidney Transplant Recipient

open access: yesDeckerMed Nephrology, Dialysis, and Transplantation, 2021
Renal transplantation is the preferred therapy for patients with end-stage kidney disease, leading to increased life expectancy, improved quality of life, and reduced health care resource use. Owing to their preexisting burden of disease, caring for renal transplant recipients is complex.

Pre‐Kidney Transplant Lower Extremity Impairment and Post‐Kidney Transplant Mortality

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Transplantation, 2018
Prediction models for post‐kidney transplantation mortality have had limited success (C‐statistics ≤0.70). Adding objective measures of potentially modifiable factors may improve prediction and, consequently, kidney transplant (KT) survival through ...

Protein‐Like Polymers Targeting Keap1/Nrf2 as Therapeutics for Myocardial Infarction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We describe a Keap1 targeting protein‐like polymer (PLP) which activates Nrf2, an important cytoprotective transcription factor for relieving myocardial infarction‐induced oxidative stress. This PLP increases cell survival in vitro in multiple relevant cardiac cell types and elicits pro‐reparative responses, improving cardiac function in a preclinical ...

Kidney Transplantation in Children

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2014
This review discusses unique aspects of kidney transplantation in children that necessitate specialized approaches and have resulted in clinical advances so that kidney transplantations in young children have higher success rates than in any other age group.
