Penalties and Rewards for Fair Learning in Paired Kidney Exchange Programs [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
A kidney exchange program, also called a kidney paired donation program, can be viewed as a repeated, dynamic trading and allocation mechanism. This suggests that a dynamic algorithm for transplant exchange selection may have superior performance in comparison to the repeated use of a static algorithm.

Game theoretical analysis of Kidney Exchange Programs [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Operational Research, Volume 305, Issue 1, 2023, Pages 373-385, 2019
The goal of a kidney exchange program (KEP) is to maximize number of transplants within a pool of incompatible patient-donor pairs by exchanging donors. A KEP can be modelled as a maximum matching problem in a graph. A KEP between incompatible patient-donor from pools of several hospitals, regions or countries has the potential to increase the number ...

Early clinical experience using donor‐derived cell‐free DNA to detect rejection in kidney transplant recipients

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Transplantation, 2019
Donor‐derived cell‐free DNA (dd‐cfDNA) became Medicare reimbursable in the United States in October 2017 for the detection of rejection in kidney transplant recipients based on results from its pivotal validation trial, but it has not yet been externally

miRNA‐29 regulates epidermal and mesenchymal functions in skin repair

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
miRNA‐29 inhibits cell‐to‐cell and cell‐to‐matrix adhesion by silencing mRNA targets. Adhesion is controlled by complex interactions between many types of molecules coded by mRNAs. This is crucial for keeping together the layers of the skin and for regenerating the skin after wounding.

Acute Kidney Injury in Liver Cirrhosis

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2023
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is common in cirrhotic patients affecting almost 20% of these patients. While multiple etiologies can lead to AKI, pre-renal azotemia seems to be the most common cause of AKI.

Bortezomib in Kidney Transplantation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Transplantation, 2010
Although current therapies for pretransplant desensitization and treatment of antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) have had some success, they do not specifically deplete plasma cells that produce antihuman leukocyte antigen (HLA) antibodies. Bortezomib, a proteasome inhibitor approved for the treatment of multiple myeloma (a plasma cell neoplasm ...

Beyond digital twins: the role of foundation models in enhancing the interpretability of multiomics modalities in precision medicine

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review highlights how foundation models enhance predictive healthcare by integrating advanced digital twin modeling with multiomics and biomedical data. This approach supports disease management, risk assessment, and personalized medicine, with the goal of optimizing health outcomes through adaptive, interpretable digital simulations, accessible ...

Donor-Specific Antibodies in Kidney Transplant Recipients.

open access: yesAmerican Society of Nephrology. Clinical Journal, 2018
Donor-specific antibodies have become an established biomarker predicting antibody-mediated rejection. Antibody-mediated rejection is the leading cause of graft loss after kidney transplant.
