Akut Miyokardiyal İnfarktüs Sonrası Primer Anjiyoplasti Uygulanan Hastalarda Kontrastla İlişkili Nefropatinin Bir Prediktörü: Kontrast Madde Hacminin Glomerüler Filtrasyon Hızına Oranı

open access: yesSakarya Tıp Dergisi, 2021
Amaç Akut miyokard infarktüsü nedeni ile perkütan koroner girişim yapılan hastalarda, kontrast madde hacminin glomerüler filtrasyon hızına oranının (KV/GFH) kontrast ilişkili nefropatiyi (KİN) öngördürmedeki etkisini belirlemek ve KİN gelişiminden ...

Extended Inclusive Fitness Theory bridges Economics and Biology through a common understanding of Social Synergy

open access: yes, 2015
Inclusive Fitness Theory (IFT) was proposed half a century ago by W.D. Hamilton to explain the emergence and maintenance of cooperation between individuals that allows the existence of society. Contemporary evolutionary ecology identified several factors

What Are Kinship Terminologies, and Why Do We Care? A Computational Approach to Analyzing Symbolic Domains [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Kinship is a fundamental feature and basis of human societies. We describe a set of computational tools and services, the Kinship Algebra Modeler, and the logic that underlies these. These were developed to improve how we understand both the fundamental

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Kin-Mediated Male Choice and Alternative Reproductive Tactics in Spider Mites

open access: yesBiology, 2020
Optimal outbreeding and kin selection theories state that the degree of kinship is a fundamental determinant in any mating system. However, the role of kinship in male choice and alternative reproductive tactics (ARTs) is poorly known.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Differences of Age Without Distinctions of Authority

open access: yesNordic Journal of African Studies
This contribution begins with the puzzle as to why there are kinship and naming systems that distinguish junior from senior, elaborately and systematically, even though these practices are embedded in substantially egalitarian societies.

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Three Translators in Search of an Author: Linguistic Strategies and Language Models in the (Re)translation of Shakespeare’s Plays into Catalan

open access: yesMulticultural Shakespeare, 2017
This article shows how the language of Shakespeare’s plays has been rendered into Catalan in three especially significant periods: the late 19th century, the early 20th century, and the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The first section centres on the
