Abstract Kinetin is oxidized by mammalian xanthine oxidase to 2,8-dihydroxykinetin, 8-hydroxykinetin being the intermediate. The furfuryl side-chain is not removed during these reactions. The enzymic rate of kinetin exceeds that of adenine.
