Detecting Antibiotic Resistance in Strains of Selected Gram‐Negative Bacterial Species Using Raman Spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, Volume 57, Issue 9, Page 1554-1564, September 2026.
Raman spectroscopy successfully identified antibiotic‐resistant Gram‐negative strains. Resistant strains of four bacterial species were discriminated from sensitive ones with 99.1% accuracy using PLS regression. The method allows for rapid, label‐free detection of antibiotic resistance.

Exploiting Image Processing and Artificial Intelligence Techniques for the Determination of Antimicrobial Susceptibility

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Antimicrobial susceptibility tests, achieved through the use of antibiotic-impregnated disks in a suitable laboratory environment, are conducted to determine which antibiotics are effective against the bacteria present in the body of an infected patient.

Comparative Antibacterial Performance of Solution‐Cast vs. Electrospun PLA/Lignin Membranes: Impact of Fabrication Technique

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 311, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study investigates how fabrication techniques influence the antibacterial efficacy of sustainable polylactic acid and lignin membranes. While solution casting encapsulates active components, electrospinning creates fibrous structures that maximize the exposure of lignin's antimicrobial phenolic groups.

Evaluation of three protocols for direct susceptibility testing for Gram-negative rods from flagged positive blood culture bottles

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Bloodstream infections are associated with high mortality, which can be reduced by targeted antibiotic therapy in the early stages of infection. Direct antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST) from flagged positive blood cultures may facilitate the ...

Evaluation of Antifungal Activity of Chromenoquinoline Derivatives Synthesized in the Medium Temperature Water Using Isinglass–Bassorin Cryogel as a Sustainable Catalyst

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2026.
In this work, a number of chromenoquinolines were synthesized in an aqueous medium at room temperature using isinglass–bassorin (IG‐BR) cryogel as an eco‐friendly heterogeneous catalyst. Furthermore, when tested for antifungal efficacy in vitro against three different kinds of fungal infections, all target compounds showed better inhibitory zones than ...

Driven diffusion in nanoscaled materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Mass transfer processes in which specific interactions with environments lead to complex diffusion patterns, such as the occurrence of transient sub-diffusive behaviors or of heterogeneous diffusion, were studied by means of two different experimental ...

Prevalence of Mastitis in Cows and Raw Milk Microbial Contamination in Selected Districts, Tanzania

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
Cow milk produced in Tanzania suffers from poor quality due to bacterial contamination from mastitis udder predisposed by poor livestock husbandry and milk hygienic practices. The prevalence of mastitis was 75.6%, with a milk bacterial contamination rate of 78% and resistance to multiple antimicrobials. To safeguard the dairy industry and public health,
