Approximate controllability of a rotating Kirchhoff plate model

49th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), 2010
In this paper, we consider a mechanical system consisting of a rigid body with a thin elastic plate. The plate vibration is governed by the Kirchhoff plate theory. We derive the equations of motion as a system of ordinary and partial differential equations and consider the angular acceleration as a control parameter.

The Kirchhoff and Related Approximations

2007
The Kirchhoff approximation (KA) is one of the two classical approaches in the theory of wave scattering. It represents the short-wavelength limit, which is similar to the semi-classical approximation. It is impossible to encompass in one standard-size paper all the aspects of the KA.

Rough Surface Scattering and the Kirchhoff Approximation

1987
Most approximate solutions to surface scattering begin with the Kirchhoff approximation to the unknown surface field. The validity of the Kirchhoff approximation is tested in this paper by the use of exact solutions for scattering from a pressure release sinusoid. Rough surfaces are expressed in a Fourier Series, and series solutions for small Rayleigh

Kirchhoff-Tangent Plane Approximation

1994
Along with the perturbation theory the geometrical optics (quasiclassical) approximation represents another general approach in analyzing the scattering processes. The method may be employed when characteristic spatial scales of irregularities somewhat exceed the radiation wavelength.

The Kirchhoff Approximation in diffusive media with arbitrary geometry

Photon Migration, Optical Coherence Tomography, and Microscopy, 2001
Due to the fact that the Kirchhoff Approximation (KA) does not involve matrix inversion for solving the forward problem, it is a very useful tool for quickly solving 3D geometries of arbitrary size and shape. Its potential mainly lies in the rapid generation of Green’s functions for arbitrary geometries, which is key to tomography techniques.

The Kirchhoff approximation: A new iterative solution

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1998
A new iterative solution to the problem of sea surface scattering is obtained which has the Kirchhoff approximation as its leading term. This solution is obtained by transforming an integral equation of the first kind for the surface potential to one of the second kind, and applying the method of successive approximations. The advantages of this method

SAL imaging method based on Kirchhoff approximation

2018 12th International Symposium on Antennas, Propagation and EM Theory (ISAPE), 2018
Synthenic aperture lidar(SAL) has been widely used for Its high-precision image of remote targets. In order to study the influence of different shapes and different roughness targets on SAL image in Thz band, the SAL images of different with different roughness are numerically simulated in this paper.

A Note on the Kirchhoff Approximation in Diffraction Theory

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1949
This note compares the predictions of the Kirchhoff approximation with those of the exact theory for the problem of diffraction by a circular aperture.
