Assessing the role of spatial externalities in the survival of Italian innovative startups

open access: yesRegional Science Policy &Practice, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract The paper provides novel empirical evidence about the effects of spatial externalities on the survival of innovative startups in Italy. Using geocoded firm‐level data, we build micro‐geographic measures of specialization and diversity that are robust to the modifiable areal unit problem.

Target strength error from the Kirchhoff-approximation and Kirchhoff-ray-mode models at two tilt angles.

open access: yes, 2013
Difference in length-normalised target strength for the Kirchhoff-approximation (KA) and Kirchhoff-ray-mode (KRM) and models compared to the prolate-spheroid-modal-series model as a function of ka and kb at a tilt angle of 0° (panel A: KA, panel C: KRM ...

Neuromorphic Near‐Sensor and In‐Sensor Computing Enabled by Next‐Generation Material‐Based Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This Review presents a structural framework that classifies neuromorphic sensing into near‐sensor and in‐sensor architectures, clarifying physical coupling between sensing and computation. The framework connects neural and synaptic device functions with recent advances in optical, mechanical, and chemical sensing, compares energy consumption and ...

STOCHASTIC MODEL OF MICROPARTICLE SCATTERING ON A CRYS-TAL

open access: yesAvances en Ciencias e Ingeniería, 2021
This paper shows that the stochastic approach to solving the problem of the scattering of elementary particles on crystal can serve as an alternative to Louis de Broglie's hypothesis on the wave properties of material particles.

Validation of Extended Kirchhoff Approximation and Small Slope Approximation for Electromagnetic Scattering from Ship Wake Surfaces

open access: yes, 2016
Extended Kirchhoff approximation and small slope approximation are employed to calculate the normalized radar cross-section of ship wake surfaces. Method of moments accelerated by the multilevel fast multipole algorithm is adopted to test the accuracy of

Physics‐Informed Neural Network‐Enabled Forward Prediction and Inverse Design of Ring Origami

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a KRT‐PINN framework that integrates Kirchhoff rod theory with physics‐informed neural networks for the forward prediction and inverse design of ring origami consisting of closed‐loop rods. The framework predicts stable states of segmented rings with prescribed natural‐curvature profiles and determines the natural‐curvature profiles ...

Comparison of the Kirchhoff-approximation and finite element models to exact solutions.

open access: yes, 2013
Length-normalised target strength (nTS) of a 25 mm diameter pressure release sphere immersed in water as a function of ka, calculated using the Kirchhoff approximation model (open circles), Kirchhoff integral (dashed line), finite element model (filled ...

Integration of Reconfigurable p‐Bit and 1R Crossbar Array for Memristive Probabilistic Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A memristive probabilistic computing system is demonstrated by integrating stochastic p‐bits based on volatile memristors with a 1R crossbar array encoding interaction weights. The system performs weighted‐sum operations across the array and updates p‐bits iteratively.

Existence of solution for Kirchhoff model problems with singular nonlinearity

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, 2021
We study the fourth order Kirchhoff equation $\Delta^2 u - (a+b \int_{\Omega} |\nabla u|^2)^\gamma \Delta u = f(u)$ in $\Omega$ with $-\Delta u > 0$ and $u > 0$ in $\Omega$, and $\Delta u = u = 0$ on $\partial \Omega$, where $f(t) = \alpha \frac{1}{t ...
