A Review on Sensor Technologies, Control Approaches, and Emerging Challenges in Soft Robotics

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This review provides an introspective of sensors and controllers in soft robotics. Initially describing the current sensing methods, then moving on to the control methods utilized, and finally ending with challenges and future directions in soft robotics focusing on the material innovations, sensor fusion, and embedded intelligence for sensors and ...

Disappearance of stretch-induced wrinkles of thin sheets: a study of orthotropic films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A recent paper (Healey et al., J. Nonlin. Sci., 2013, 23:777-805.) predicted the disappearance of the stretch-induced wrinkled pattern of thin, clamped, elastic sheets by numerical simulation of the F\"oppl-von K\'arm\'an equations extended to the finite

Surface Plasmon Enhanced Photoluminescence of Carbon Dots Formed In Situ on Silver Gratings

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Carbon emitters formed in situ on a silver grating via plasmonic catalysis yield enhanced spontaneous emission by preferential radiative decay into surface plasmons. Enhancement manifests as emission exhibiting characteristics of coherence (polarization, directionality), and accelerated lifetimes of ∼30 ps, yielding Purcell factors of ∼70.

Forced vibrations of a box element of a multi-story building under dynamic impact

open access: yesMagazine of Civil Engineering, 2022
The article is devoted to the dynamic calculations of the elements of the box-shaped structure of buildings for seismic resistance, taking into account the spatial work of the elements of the box under the action of dynamic influences set by the movement

Small-Time Behavior of Unsteady Cavity Flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 1963
A perturbation theory is applied to investigate the small-time behavior of unsteady cavity flows in which the time-dependent part of the flow may be taken as a small-time expansion superimposed on an established steady cavity flow of an ideal fluid.

Terahertz Channel Modeling, Estimation and Localization in RIS‐Assisted Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces have become a recent intensive research focus. Based on practical applications, channel strategies for RIS‐assisted terahertz wireless communication systems are categorized into three different types: channel modeling, channel estimation, and channel localization.

Free vibration analysis of functionally graded rectangular nanoplates considering spatial variation of the nonlocal parameter

open access: yesArchives of Mechanics, 2017
We present a new nonlocal elasticity-based analysis method for free vibrations of functionally graded rectangular nanoplates. The introduced method allows taking into account spatial variation of the nonlocal parameter.

Dynamics of thermoelastic thin plates: A comparison of four theories

open access: yes, 2005
Four distinct theories describing the flexural motion of thermoelastic thin plates are compared. The theories are due to Chadwick, Lagnese and Lions, Simmonds, and Norris.

Mixed Super‐Circles

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract We introduce mixed super‐circles, a position‐curvature formulation of the original dynamic 2D super‐helix model. Compared to the latter, purely curvature‐based model – the so‐called chained formulation –, the mixed formulation that we propose here drastically reduces the algorithmic complexity of the solving scheme – from quadratic to quasi ...
