Phagocytosis of Primary Human Macrophages is Elevated by Ex Vivo Supplementation with n‐3 PUFA

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 70, Issue 8, 27 April 2026.
Using an established ex vivo DHA and EPA supplementation strategy in primary human macrophages, PUFA pattern of cells was shifted from a low n‐3 PUFA status towards a high n‐3 PUFA status. This led to an elevated phagocytosis in the supplemented macrophages indicating an improved potential for clearance of pathogens and cell debris.

Static analysis of nanoplates based on the nonlocal Kirchhoff and Mindlin plate theories using DQM

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
In this study, static analysis of the two-dimensional rectangular nanoplates are investigated by the Differential Quadrature Method (DQM). Numerical solution procedures are proposed for deflection of an embedded nanoplate under distributed nanoparticles ...

Bounds on the effective isotropic moduli of thin elastic composite plates

open access: yesArchives of Mechanics, 2010
The main aim of this paper is to estimate the effective moduli of an isotropic elastic composite, analyzed within the framework of the Kirchhoff-Love theory of thin plates in bending.

Phase Shift Compensation Enables Rainbow‐Free, Ultrawide Angular, and Pattern‐Free Nonreciprocal Thermal Emission

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 8, 24 April 2026.
A pattern‐free nonreciprocal emitter is demonstrated, exhibiting strong nonreciprocity (η > 0.6 or 0.8) across an unprecedented angular range (Δθ = 75° or 60°) at the target wavelength with monochromaticity of Δλ/λ₀ < 0.54%. The wavelength is tunable without compromising the rainbow‐free or ultrawide angular response, establishing a generalizable ...

Otto Stern—An Involuntary Convert to Quantum Theory

open access: yesNatural Sciences, Volume 6, Issue 2, April 2026.
Otto Stern (1888–1969) at work in his Hamburg laboratory (circa 1930). ABSTRACT The bulk of experiments and observations that lined the path to quantum mechanics amounted to a backlog of data in need of explanation. A notable exception was the Stern–Gerlach experiment (SGE) designed to test the predictions of the old quantum theory as embodied by the ...

Exact solution for bending analysis of functionally graded micro-plates based on strain gradient theory

open access: yesScience and Engineering of Composite Materials, 2018
In the present article, static analysis of thin functionally graded micro-plates, based on Kirchhoff plate theory, is investigated. Utilizing the strain gradient theory and principle of minimum total potential energy, governing equations of rectangular ...

A simple approach to the numerical simulation with trimmed CAD surfaces

open access: yes, 2015
In this work a novel method for the analysis with trimmed CAD surfaces is presented. The method involves an additional mapping step and the attraction stems from its sim- plicity and ease of implementation into existing Finite Element (FEM) or Boundary ...

The Surface Potential Restoration Algorithm of Electrostatic Capacitance Probe During On‐Line Measurement

open access: yesHigh Voltage, Volume 11, Issue 2, Page 434-444, April 2026.
ABSTRACT The surface charge accumulation on insulators is one of the important factors that limit the development of high‐voltage direct current (HVDC) gas insulated transmission line (GIL), and the accurate measurement of surface charge is the basis to explore its physical mechanism.

Statics and dynamics of an electrically driven mesh nanoplate [PDF]

open access: yesИзвестия Саратовского университета. Новая серия: Математика. Механика. Информатика
The study object is a flexible plate of a mesh structure with an electrical drive with clamped edges. A source of electromotive force is connected to the gate and the plate. The gate is located at some distance below the plate.

Astrocyte Proximity Protects Synapses From Human Amyloid‐Beta Induced Degeneration in a Mouse Ex Vivo Model of Early Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 63, Issue 7, April 2026.
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia, affecting over 35 million people worldwide. A key feature of AD is the loss of synapses—the connections between brain cells—which strongly correlates with cognitive decline. We sought to investigate the role of astrocytes in mouse organotypic cultures challenged with brain homogenate (BH ...
