Alzheimer's Disease in Africa: A Scoping Review Protocol. [PDF]

open access: yesHealth Sci Rep
ABSTRACT Background and Aims The global burden of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is set to increase in the next three decades particularly because of the global increase in life expectancy. The state of AD in Africa is a cause for concern because the continent's rapid population growth and demographic transition will be major contributors to AD's increased ...

Lipocalin‐2 activates hepatic stellate cells and promotes nonalcoholic steatohepatitis in high‐fat diet–fed Ob/Ob mice

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Graphical summary of obesity‐induced NASH progression by LCN2 targeted to HSC activation. Abstract Background and Aims In obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus, leptin promotes insulin resistance and contributes to the progression of NASH via activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs).

Identification of the YfgF MASE1 domain as a modulator of bacterial responses to aspartate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Complex 3'-5'-cyclic diguanylic acid (c-di-GMP) responsive regulatory networks that are modulated by the action of multiple diguanylate cyclases (DGC; GGDEF domain proteins) and phosphodiesterases (PDE; EAL domain proteins) have evolved in many bacteria.

Nucleolar KKE/D Repeat Proteins Nop56P and Nop58P Interact with Nop1p and Are Required for Ribosome Biogenesis [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Biology, 1997
Different point mutations in the nucleolar protein fibrillarin (Nop1p in Saccharomyces cerevisiae) can inhibit different steps in ribosome synthesis. A screen for mutations that are synthetically lethal (sl) with the nop1-5 allele, which inhibits pre-rRNA processing, identified NOP56.

Internal Modes of Solitons and Near-Integrable Highly-Dispersive Nonlinear Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The transition from integrable to non-integrable highly-dispersive nonlinear models is investigated. The sine-Gordon and $\phi^4$-equations with the additional fourth-order spatial and spatio-temporal derivatives, describing the higher dispersion, and ...

Indirect Detection of Kaluza-Klein Dark Matter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We investigate prospects for indirect detection of Kaluza--Klein dark matter, focusing on the annihilation radiation of the first Kaluza--Klein excitation of the Hypercharge gauge boson $B^{(1)}$ in the Galactic halo, in particular we estimate neutrino ...
