Capsule Types of Klebsiella

Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1952
Toennissen (1912, 1914, 1915, 1921a and b) was the first worker to draw attention to the serologic specificity of klebsiella capsules and to demonstrate the carbohydrate nature of the capsular antigens. Julianelle (1926a and b) clearly demonstrated the existence of three distinct capsule types of klebsiella, and Goslings and Snijders (1936) extended ...

Klebsiella pneumoniae and pneumoperitoneum

The Lancet, 2004
A 71-year-old woman presented with a 1-week history of abdominal pain. She had end-stage renal disease due to hypertension, and had been on chronic peritoneal dialysis for 10 years. An abdominal radiograph showed a large amount of intraperitoneal air. We did paracentesis; and obtained turbid ascites with a high leucocyte count.

Klebsiella

1977
Klebsiella pneumoniae is well distributed in the environment and found to be associated primarily with wastes high in organic matter and human activity. K. pneumoniae is a serious opportunistic pathogen of increasing concern in hospitals, where precolonization seems to be a prerequisite to infection.

Epidemiology of Quinolone Resistance of Klebsiella pneumoniae and Klebsiella oxytoca in Europe

European Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, 2000
The epidemiology of quinolone resistance and the concomitant resistance to other antibiotic classes was investigated in 445 Klebsiella pneumoniae and 238 Klebsiella oxytoca isolates. Decreased susceptibility to ciprofloxacin was found in 7.2% and 3.4% of these two species, respectively.

Klebsiella-Induced LIF Response in Klebsiella Infection and Ankylosing Spondylitis

Rheumatology, 1983
Lymphocyte transformation and leucocyte migration inhibition was studied in Klebsiella-sensitized patients, ankylosing spondylitis patients and healthy controls. The results show that mononuclear cells from ankylosing spondylitis patients respond more vigorously to Klebsiella, one of the 'trigger' bacteria, than do mononuclear cells from healthy ...

Studies Concerning the Sensitivity of Klebsiella Strains to a Set of Klebsiella Bacteriocins

Zentralblatt für Bakteriologie, Mikrobiologie und Hygiene. 1. Abt. Originale. A, Medizinische Mikrobiologie, Infektionskrankheiten und Parasitologie, 1980
Optimal crude preparations of Klebsiella bacteriocins were obtained bu U.V. irradiation of bacteriocin producer strains. Of 308 clinical isolates of Klebsiella 88.9% could be typed on the basis of their sensitivity to different Klebsiella bacteriocins.
