Antimicrobial effects of chlorhexidine, matrica drop mouthwash (chamomile extract), and normal saline on hospitalized patients with endotracheal tubes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: The functions and use of mouthwashes are variable depending on their type. Oral care in patients with endotracheal tubes is important to prevent side effects such as pneumonia.

Modifying Antibiotic Activity of Synthetic Thiadiazine Analogs Against MDR Bacteria and ADMET Analysis

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
The study demonstrated that thidiazine compounds potentiated the action of antibiotics. The compounds associated with norfloxacin against S. aureus showed greater significance in relation to the other medications. The indiscriminate use of antibiotics has led to the selection of resistant bacterial strains, significantly reducing the effectiveness of ...

High levels of cyclic di-GMP in Klebsiella pneumoniae attenuate virulence in the lung [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The bacterial second messenger bis-(3′-5′)-cyclic dimeric GMP (c-di-GMP) has been shown to influence the expression of virulence factors in certain pathogenic bacteria, but little is known about its activity in the increasingly antibiotic-resistant ...

Green Synthesis of ZnO Nanoparticles From Spirulina platensis: Antimicrobial and Cytotoxic Evaluation With Molecular Docking Studies

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
Algal‐extract‐derived ZnO nanoparticles show shape anisotropy and are bio capped by phytochemicals. These green‐synthesized NPs strongly inhibit S. aureus and K. pneumoniae biofilms. Molecular docking suggests stable binding of surface biomolecules to microbial targets, highlighting synergistic antibacterial mechanisms.

Characterisation of bacteria‐induced colitis and its modulation by probiotics in naked mole rats: a new mammalian model for acute inflammatory disease

open access: yesThe Journal of Pathology, EarlyView.
Abstract Enteropathogenic bacteria are a major cause of morbidity and mortality globally. While mouse models have been indispensable in advancing our understanding of infectious enteric diseases, key differences in intestinal microbiota and immunobiology between mice and humans underscore the need for alternative mammalian models that better ...
