Forging a New Frontier: Antimicrobial Peptides and Nanotechnology Converging to Conquer Gastrointestinal Pathogens

open access: yesSmall, Volume 21, Issue 26, July 3, 2025.
This review explores the potential of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) and nanotechnology for the treatment of gastrointestinal infections. It analyzes bacterial resistance mechanisms, the antimicrobial actions of AMPs, and advances in nanocarriers, such as lipid‐based, polymeric, metallic, and mesoporous silica systems, that enhance peptide protection ...

Extended Spectrum Beta‐Lactamase Producing Escherichia coli in Pet Cats and Dogs in Central Peninsular Malaysia

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 4, July 2025.
• The prevalence of ESBL‐E. coli in cats and dogs in central Peninsular Malaysia was 10.6%. • Dogs are at a greater risk of carrying the bacteria, and among pets sharing feeding area and pets with a history of gastrointestinal symptoms. • Co‐resistance to more than three types of tested antibiotics for the ESBL‐E.

Detection and Characterization of Colistin Heteroresistance in an Enterobacter cloacae ST48 Strain Isolated From Raw Milk in Algeria

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 4, July 2025.
Enterobacter cloacae ST48 isolate from raw cow milk exhibits colistin heteroresistnace profile. Chromosomal gene mutations in mgrB, phoPQ and pmrAB, incude colistin resistance in E. claocea isolate ABSTRACT An Enterobacter cloacae ST48 isolate exhibiting a colistin‐heteroresistant phenotype was obtained from raw cow milk in Algeria.

Pathogenesis, Surgical Treatment and Postoperative Outcome of Rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) With Intraabdominal Abscess: 12 Cases (2017–2023)

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 4, July 2025.
Twelve cases of rabbits that underwent surgical excision and were diagnosed with intraabdominal abscess between 2017 and 2023 were retrospectively evaluated. Intraabdominal abscesses in rabbits were commonly associated with the vermiform appendix and previous gastrointestinal perforation.
