γ‐aminobutyric acid production by Kluyveromyces marxianus strains
Journal of Applied Microbiology, 2020Kluyveromyces marxianus dairy strains were tested for γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) production. The genes involved in GABA catabolism (UGA1 and UGA2) and anabolism (GAD1) were found in K. marxianus genome. Their relative expression was evaluated with primer designed ad hoc.Strains were grouped on the basis of GAD1 gene sequence. Representative strains for

Structure of the ABF1-homologue from Kluyveromyces marxianus
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Structure and Expression, 1993By transformation of a Saccharomyces cerevisiae mutant strain conditionally expressing the ABF1-gene, a Kluyveromyces marxianus DNA fragment carrying the gene encoding the ABF1-homologue of this yeast strain (KmABF1) was selected. Comparison of the sequence of the KmABF1 gene with that encoding Saccharomyces cerevisiae ABF1 and the previously isolated ...

Cloning and characterization of Kluyveromyces marxianus Hog1 gene
Biotechnology Letters, 2010The mitogen-activated protein kinase Hog1 gene (Kmhog1) was isolated from Kluyveromyces marxianus strain NBRC 1777 by degenerate PCR and genome walking, and then disrupted to construct a mutant strain hog1∆. The mutant was now more sensitive to acetic acid and its growth was nearly completely inhibited by 0.5 M NaCl (97%) and 10 mM H(2)O(2) (93%) as ...

Metabolic physiology of aroma‐producing Kluyveromyces marxianus
Yeast, 2002AbstractKluyveromyces marxianus has a high potential for industrial production of aroma compounds, such as 2‐phenylethanol, which is derived in a bioconversion from L‐phenylalanine. In the present work the product yield of K. marxianus in batch cultivation was estimated as 0.65 mol 2‐phenylethanol/mol L‐phenylalanine and thus significantly below the ...

Iminodiacetate and Nitrilotriacetate Degradation by Kluyveromyces marxianus IMB3
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2002The thermotolerant yeast Kluyveromyces marxianus IMB3 was capable of utilising either iminodiacetate or nitrilotriacetate as a sole source of nitrogen for growth. Cell extracts contained iminodiacetate dehydrogenase and nitrilotriacetate monooxygenase activities, suggesting the presence in the yeast of orthologues of these bacterial enzymes.

Applications of Kluyveromyces marxianus in Biotechnology
2017Kluyveromyces marxianus is a member of the Saccharomycetales yeast order and is used for a variety of commercial applications, most notably production of ethanol from food waste streams. Traits such as rapid growth rates, lactose utilization, good tolerance to inhibitory molecules and thermotolerance facilitate these applications. K.

Metal-enzyme interactions in ADH1 from Kluyveromyces marxianus
International Journal of Biochemistry, 19931. 1. Among all metals tested (Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+, Mn2+, Zn2+) only Cu2+ and Ni2+ can exert an inhibitory effect on catalysis. 2. 2. The effect of divalent cations (copper and nickel) on alcohol dehydrogenase 1 (ADH1) from Kluyveromyces marxianus is a mixed type inhibition. 3. 3.
