Over the past 15 years, total knee arthroplasty has evolved to a substantial degree with respect to both design and technique. Although initially it lagged well behind the "state of the art" for total hip arthroplasty, it now appears to have surpassed the older procedure, particularly with respect to durability. UniSpacer Arthroplasty of the Knee
The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (American), 2005The operative treatment of medial compartment knee arthritis is controversial. The purpose of the present study was to report the experience of a single surgeon with the UniSpacer arthroplasty for the treatment of isolated medial compartment arthritis of the knee. From April 2002 through November 2002, thirty-seven UniSpacer arthroplasties were ...

We studied the technical operative features and the subjective outcomes of 63 patients requiring a revision to a total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for failed Oxford medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty. We compared this revision study group to a contemporary control cohort of 126 patients who underwent primary TKAs.

Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty
Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, 2008Recent increased interest in less invasive surgical techniques has led to a concurrent resurgence in unicompartmental knee arthroplasty. The procedure has evolved significantly over the past three decades. Proponents of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty cite as advantages lower perioperative morbidity and earlier recovery.

The results of fifty-one Manchester knee arthroplasties in forty-one patients are reviewed and discussed. Excellent and good results were obtained in 85.4 per cent of arthroplasties. Varus and valgus deformity can be corrected and stability preserved or restored. Complications occurred in only twelve patients but resolved in all except one.

FASCIAL ARTHROPLASTY OF THE KNEE
The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 1952In an analysis of thirty-seven arthroplasties of the knee, there were eleven good results (30 per cent.), eight fair results (22 per cent.), and eighteen failures (48 per cent.). Particularly poor candidates for arthroplasty have been those patients with polyarticular ankylosis resulting from atrophic arthritis.

Arthrodesis of the knee is a simple and safe operation that ensures stability and freedom from pain. But it is achieved at the expense of movement and occasionally of social acceptability. If arthroplasty is to be recommended, the advantages of arthrodesis must be retained, with the added bonus of a functional arc of movement.

Total Knee Arthroplasty in the Valgus Knee
The Journal of Knee Surgery, 2023AbstractAn estimated 10 to 15% of total knee arthroplasties (TKAs) are implanted for a diagnosis of arthritis when a valgus deformity is present. There are various techniques and considerations that must be considered for a successful TKA in a patient with a valgus deformity.

Spherocentric Knee Arthroplasty
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1979The spherocentric knee, designed to allow triaxial rotation and provide intrinsic stability, includes desirable design features of metal on high density polyethelene bearing surfaces, metal support for all plastic components, metal-cement-bone interfacing for all fixation surfaces, sufficient strength to eliminate fatigue fracture of metallic ...
