The GSB knee joint is briefly described. Its main features are that it is a non-constrained hinge joint with a polycentric axis of rotation and the load is transmitted over a large area of condylar support. Two hundred and twenty-four patients operated upon in the preceeding 6 years have been reviewed and analysed by an independent observer and the ...

The Shiers arthroplasty of the knee
The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 1976Thirty-one patients with rheumatoid arthritis were reviewed after Shiers arthroplasty of the knee joint for which the main indication was intractable pain. Seven patients had the operation done to both knees. This review was done to assess the long-term results two to seven years later. All patients were clinically and radiologically assessed, and our

Experience With Knee Arthroplasty
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1989Knee arthroplasty is a suitable way of treating severely affected joints. During the years 1976-1987, 160 knee arthroplasties were performed at the author's institution. Of 142 followed. 41 cases were of the unconstrained type (Marmor, Bechtol, and Oxford), while 101 cases were of the constrained type (St. Georg hinge and Endo-Model).

Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1984This is a review of the results of 17 knees treated by modular-type (Marmor) unicompartmental knee prostheses. The average age at the time of the operation was 62 years with an average follow-up period of 59 months. All the patients improved and were satisfied with the operation.

The Knee, 2007
Obesity has been shown to be a risk factor for knee osteoarthritis. Total knee arthroplasty in the obese patient has given rise to some controversy in terms of perioperative risks, and the longevity of the implants. We reviewed the salient literature on this subject regarding the impact of obesity on the knee, the outcome of TKA in the obese patient ...

Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1986Unicondylar knee arthroplasty is an alternative to tibial osteotomy for the treatment of medial or lateral compartment noninflammatory arthritis. It must be considered in the context of the other viable surgical options for treatment of this disorder. Appropriate patient selection and careful surgical technique will provide good to excellent results in

AbstractSpontaneous osteonecrosis of the knee (SON) is an osteonecrosis that mainly affects the medial femoral condyle. In endstage SON, knee arthroplasty is the therapy of choice. Because of the unicompartimental nature of the knee, unicondylar knee arthroplasty is considered an ideal implant for treatment of this condition.

Total Knee Arthroplasty in Valgus Knees
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1991One hundred thirty-four total knee arthroplasties in 98 patients with a valgus alignment were analyzed. Knees with a preoperative alignment of 10 degrees or greater anatomic valgus were believed suitable for inclusion. The average follow-up period in these patients was 4.5 years (range, two to ten years).

Knee replacement surgery, either with unicompartmental or total systems, is common. The purpose of this manuscript is to review the appearance of normal knee arthroplasty and the appearances of complications such as infection, polyethylene wear, aseptic loosening and particle-induced osteolysis, patellofemoral abnormalities, axial instability, and ...
