Sequences of knots and their limits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Hyperfinite knots, or limits of equivalence classes of knots induced by a knot invariant taking values in a metric space, were introduced in a previous article by the author.

The Heegaard genus of manifolds obtained by surgery on links and knots

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1980
Let L⊂S3 be a fixed link. It is shown that there exists an upper bound on the Heegaard genus of any manifold obtained by surgery on L. The tunnel number of L, T(L), is defined and used as an upper bound.

Stiff knots [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2007
We report on the geometry and mechanics of knotted stiff strings. We discuss both closed and open knots. Our two main results are: (i) Their equilibrium energy as well as the equilibrium tension for open knots depend on the type of knot as the square of the bridge number; (ii) Braid localization is found to be a general feature of stiff strings ...

Harmonic knots [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Knot Theory and Its Ramifications, 2016
The harmonic knot [Formula: see text] is parametrized as [Formula: see text] where [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are pairwise coprime integers and [Formula: see text] is the degree [Formula: see text] Chebyshev polynomial of the first kind. We classify the harmonic knots [Formula: see text] for [Formula: see text] We

Modeling the Influence of Knots on Douglas-Fir Veneer Fiber Orientation

open access: yesFibers, 2020
This study presents a method for predicting the local fiber orientation of veneers made from peeled Douglas-fir logs based on the knowledge of the tree branch characteristics (location, radius, insertion angle, azimuth angle, and living branch ratio ...

The Multitude of Molecular Hydrogen Knots in the Helix Nebula [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We present HST/NICMOS imaging of the H_2 2.12 \mu m emission in 5 fields in the Helix Nebula ranging in radial distance from 250-450" from the central star.

Ileosigmoid Knot [PDF]

open access: yesIndian Journal of Surgery, 2011
Ileosigmoid knotting, also known as compound volvulus or double Volvulus, is a rare cause of acute intestinal obstruction. In this condition the ileum wraps around the base of the sigmoid colon and forms a knot. The condition is serious, generally progressing rapidly to gangrene of both ileum and sigmoid colon. Ileosigmoid knotting is an unusual entity

The distribution of Alexander polynomials of knots confined to a thin layer [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Numerical hammagraphy is used to determine the statistical distribution of knots which are confined to a thin layer. The statistics used are based on more than 2*106 knots.

Assessment of the effect of quality factors on the assortment structure in poplar plantations [PDF]

open access: yesGlasnik Šumarskog Fakulteta: Univerzitet u Beogradu, 2008
Quality factors affecting the assortment quality structure in poplar plantations were researched on nine temporary sample plots in the period 1997-2004, from the aspect of the implementation of roundwood standards. Sample plots were selected depending on

TORUS KNOTS ARE FOURIER-(1,1,2) KNOTS [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Knot Theory and Its Ramifications, 2009
Every torus knot can be represented as a Fourier-(1,1,2) knot which is the simplest possible Fourier representation for such a knot. This answers a question of Kauffman and confirms the conjecture made by Boocher, Daigle, Hoste and Zheng. In particular, the torus knot Tp,q can be parameterized as [Formula: see text]
