PHILOSOPHICAL KNOWLEDGE AND KNOWLEDGE OF COUNTERFACTUALS

open access: yesGrazer Philosophische Studien, 2007
Metaphysical modalities are definable from counterfactual conditionals, and the epistemology of the former is a special case of the epistemology of the latter. In particular, the role of conceivability and inconceivability in assessing claims of possibility and impossibility can be explained as a special case of the pervasive role of the imagination in

Patient therapy outcome modeling in cancer organoids is improved by cancer‐associated fibroblasts and organoid assembly convolution

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Patient‐derived organoids (PDOs) from pancreatic, colorectal, and gastric cancers were used to evaluate standard and experimental therapies. Incorporating cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) into organoid cultures improved patient therapy outcome prediction.

The effects of home and school on children’s happiness: a structural equation model

open access: yesInternational Journal of Child Care and Education Policy, 2018
This study analyzed the structural relationships between the important constructs of school, home and family, and the happiness of Abu Dhabi school children. Survey data were collected from students in schools in the three regions of Abu Dhabi. The final

Knowledge and Common Knowledge of Strategies

open access: yesCoRR
Most existing work on strategic reasoning simply adopts either an informed or an uninformed semantics. We propose a model where knowledge of strategies can be specified on a fine-grained level. In particular, it is possible to distinguish first-order, higher-order, and common knowledge of strategies.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Decoding the future of agricultural participation: machine learning insights to unravel the plausible triggers

open access: yesFrontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics
IntroductionAs agricultural participation continues to shift under the pressures of urbanization, climate change, and evolving socioeconomic conditions, understanding the drivers behind household engagement becomes increasingly vital.MethodsThis study ...

An integration of competing accounts on children’s number line estimation

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2015
Children’s estimation patterns in bounded number line estimation reveal marked developmental changes. Three different theoretical accounts were proposed to explain these changes: a log-to-linear shift account, a proportion-judgment account and a two ...

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

On the interrelation of multiplication and division in secondary school children

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2013
Multiplication and division are conceptually inversely related: Each division problem can be transformed into as a multiplication problem and vice versa.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...
