A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

An Approach to Knowledge Base Completion by a Committee-Based Knowledge Graph Embedding

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Knowledge bases such as Freebase, YAGO, DBPedia, and Nell contain a number of facts with various entities and relations. Since they store many facts, they are regarded as core resources for many natural language processing tasks.

Scholarly Knowledge Graph Construction from Published Software Packages

open access: yes, 2023
The value of structured scholarly knowledge for research and society at large is well understood, but producing scholarly knowledge (i.e., knowledge traditionally published in articles) in structured form remains a challenge. We propose an approach for automatically extracting scholarly knowledge from published software packages by static analysis of ...

Cumulative Social Disadvantage and Disease Activity in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: A Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance Registry Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Social determinants of health (SDOH) contribute to juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) disparities, but most studies have assessed SDOH independently rather than cumulatively across individual, family, and neighborhood levels. Using a socioecological framework, we investigated the relationship among cumulative social disadvantage ...

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...

Scalable Knowledge Graph Construction from Twitter

open access: yes, 2019
We describe a knowledge graph derived from Twitter data with the goal of discovering relationships between people, links, and topics. The goal is to filter out noise from Twitter and surface an inside-out view that relies on high quality content. The generated graph contains many relationships where the user can query and traverse the structure from ...
