2010 年10 月3 日7 時30 分, 西表島北西 部のトゥドゥマリの浜 (月ヶ浜) (24.42477, 123.77375) において, 小型鯨類の漂着死体が発 見された. 漂着個体は体長236 cm であり, 損失 部位, 及び目立った外傷は認められなかった. 外部形態, 及び頭骨と下顎の形態より, 本個体 はオガワコマッコウと同定された. 死後36 時 間以上たった後に剖検することができたが, 腐 敗が著しく, 病性鑑定は困難であった.
