Soil moisture detection using KOMPSAT-5 SAR data

2010 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2010
The applicability of the KOMPSAT-5 (Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-5) SAR on soil moisture detection is addressed in this paper. At first, the penetration into and reflection from bare soil surfaces at X-band are compared with those at L-band for homogeneous and inhomogeneous moisture profiles.

Deep Learning Based Water Segmentation Using KOMPSAT-5 SAR Images

2021 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium IGARSS, 2021
Depending on weather conditions, optical satellites might not acquire image information of a region of interest (ROI). This is a major drawback in emergency disaster which require realtime monitoring and damage analysis. In particular, one of the most serious disasters, floods, always accompany clouds.

Analysis of Oil Storage Trend Using KOMPSAT-5 SAR Data

IGARSS 2020 - 2020 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2020
Monitoring oil storage states with observing oil tanks provides significant indicators in terms of economics, finance and trade. Crude oil is usually stored in floating roof tanks due to the chemical properties of the reservoir. Through the geometry of floating roofs, satellite synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images can be employed to estimate more ...

Application of KOMPSAT-5 data for emergent oil spill monitoring

2010 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2010
In this paper, we discussed the functionalities of KOMPSAT-5 from the emergency response perspective to oil spill detection, describing its technical abilities in terms of maneuverability, system response time, image quality, and damping ratio. The damping ratio at the X-band was higher than that at other available frequencies, which increased the ...

Change Detection of Urban Areas Affected by Earthquake Using Kompsat-5 Data

IGARSS 2020 - 2020 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2020
In this study, a new urban change detection method to effectively detect building damages from Kompsat-5 SAR images having relatively long temporal baseline and different observational conditions is presented. The proposed urban change detection method includes the extraction of building areas using morphological operations and the detection of damage ...

Two-Dimensional Ship Velocity Retrieval from the Kompsat-5 SAR

IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2019
This paper presents a method and application results of two-dimensional ship velocity retrieval from KOMPSAT-5 X-band SAR via Doppler parameter estimation. It is necessary to estimate both range and azimuth velocity in order to restore the information of heading and velocity of ships in coastal area.
