Nonmonotonic Enhancement of Electro‐Optic Properties of Wurtzite AlN Thin Films by Sc Doping

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
EO coefficient, rc, for Sc‐AlN thin films in comparison with that for Mg ZnO thin films (left). Calculated electric field intensity of the fundamental mode supported by the active area that includes Sc‐AlN (right). ABSTRACT Wurtzite ferroelectrics, such as Sc‐doped AlN, have recently attracted considerable attention for their potential in realizing ...

Interaction of spin and vibrations in transport through single-molecule magnets

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2011
We study electron transport through a single-molecule magnet (SMM) and the interplay of its anisotropic spin with quantized vibrational distortions of the molecule.

Low‐Field Giant Dielectric Tunability by Polaron‐Mediated Interfacial Polarization in Pulsed‐Laser‐Deposited‐Nanocrystalline/Amorphous Composite BaTiO3 Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Comparison of tunability efficiency between vacuum‐deposited PLD‐BTO films grown at Td = 550°C in the present study and representative previous reports. ABSTRACT Electrically tunable dielectric thin films are essential components for next‐generation low‐voltage electronic devices.

Intersite Coupling Effects in a Kondo Lattice [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2002
The La dilution of the Kondo lattice CeCoIn_5 is studied. The scaling laws found for the magnetic susceptibility and the specific heat reveal two well-separated energy scales, corresponding to the single impurity Kondo temperature T_K and an intersite spin-liquid temperature T^*. The Ce-dilute alloy has the expected Fermi liquid ground state, while the

Comprehensive DFT Analysis of FeSi and RhSi: Structural Stability, Electronic Contrast and Transport‐Optical Responses

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
This comprehensive density functional theory analysis investigates the structural, electronic, optical, mechanical, and thermoelectric properties of FeSi, c‐RhSi, and o‐RhSi. Results reveal distinct electronic and optical contrasts among the materials.

Blocking transport resonances via Kondo many-body entanglement in quantum dots

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
The many-body Kondo effect manifests in low-temperature Coulomb blockaded quantum dots as a zero-bias conductance peak, which arises due to charge-fluctuation-driven transport.

Immune Complexes Shape the Pathogenicity of Autoantibodies in Systemic Autoimmune Diseases: Insights From an FcγRIIIA‐Reporter Assay

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Immune complexes (ICs), formed by autoantigen and autoantibody, play a pathogenic role in systemic autoimmune diseases through stimulation of Fcγ receptors (FcγR). However, studies investigating bioactivity of circulating ICs across various diseases remain limited.

Kondo Effect in Dirac Systems [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Physical Society of Japan, 2015
We investigate the Kondo effect in Dirac systems, where Dirac electrons interact with the localized spin via the s-d exchange coupling. The Dirac electron in solid state has the linear dispersion and is described typically by the Hamiltonian such as $H_k= v{\bf k}\cdot σ$ for the wave number ${\bf k}$ where $σ_j$ are Pauli matrices.

Animal empathy reconsidered: a multidimensional profile account

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Empathy is the glue that holds societies together and yet several fundamental questions about empathy persist. What is empathy (the definitional question)? Is it uniquely human and, if not, which nonhuman animals possess empathy (the distribution question)? Which type or quality of empathy is realized in different species (the quality question)
