Effects of Pyrolysis Control Parameters on the Structural Properties of Biomass‐Derived Activated Carbon Materials and Their Energy Applications

open access: yesThe Chemical Record, EarlyView.
Tubular pyrolysis synthesis is a widespread method to produce activated carbons (ACs). This review focuses on the different controlling parameters of the tubular pyrolysis synthesis method and their influence on the performance of synthesized ACs, thereby considering both experimental aspects and the use of plant‐based biomasses (PBBs) as feedstock ...

Evaluation of kraft cooking behaviour for six different softwoods species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The main goal of this paper is to observe de differences of behaviour between six softwoods species during the kraft cooking sequence, knowing that morphological, physicochemical and hygroscopic characters are different.

Time‐resolved 3D imaging opportunities with XMPI at ForMAX

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
The first implementation of X‐ray multi‐projection imaging (XMPI) at the ForMAX beamline (MAX IV) enables the acquisition of multiple projections simultaneously without requiring sample rotation. This approach facilitates volumetric studies of fast dynamics at frame rates of 12.5 kHz with micrometre resolution, with the potential of even higher speeds,

Pulp Production from Cotton Stalks using Kraft Pulping

open access: yes, 2015
The study aimed at optimizing pulping variables and selecting suitable delignification conditions for the production of pulp from cotton stalk. The influence of operational variables on the pulp yield and lignin dissolution of cotton stalks was studied. Cotton stalks chips were delignified in a laboratory pulpwood according to the Kraft pulping process.

From Tobacco to Ultraprocessed Food: How Industry Engineering Fuels the Epidemic of Preventable Disease

open access: yesThe Milbank Quarterly, EarlyView.
Policy Points Ultraprocessed foods (UPFs) are engineered to heighten reward and accelerate delivery of reinforcing ingredients, driving compulsive consumption and disrupting appetite regulation. This is a growing challenge for health policy. UPFs share key engineering strategies adopted from the tobacco industry, such as dose optimization and hedonic ...

CHARACTERIZATION AND PROPERTIES OF ION EXCHANGERS PRODUCED FROM LIGNIN PRECIPITATED AFTER PEROXYACID PULPING

open access: yesBioResources, 2008
Pulping of bagasse by one-stage and three-stage peroxyacetic acid was carried out. Characterization of the precipitated lignin from the waste liquor of the pulping process was studied using infrared spec-troscopy.

Effect of replacing polyol by organosolv and kraft lignin on the property and structure of rigid polyurethane foam

open access: yesBiotechnology for Biofuels, 2013
Background Lignin is one of the three major components in plant cell walls, and it can be isolated (dissolved) from the cell wall in pretreatment or chemical pulping.
