Kuiper Belt Occultation Predictions [PDF]

open access: yesPublications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 2013
Here we present observations of 7 large Kuiper Belt Objects. From these observations, we extract a point source catalog with $\sim0.01"$ precision, and astrometry of our target Kuiper Belt Objects with $0.04-0.08"$ precision within that catalog. We have developed a new technique to predict the future occurrence of stellar occultations by Kuiper Belt ...

What If Planet Nine Has Satellites?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
In the past decade, numerical simulations started to reveal the possible existence of Planet Nine in our solar system. The Planet Nine scenario can provide an excellent explanation for the clustering in orbital elements for Kuiper Belt objects.

WATER ICE IN THE KUIPER BELT [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2012
We examine a large collection of low resolution near-infrared spectra of Kuiper belt objects and centaurs in an attempt to understand the presence of water ice in the Kuiper belt. We find that water ice on the surface of these objects occurs in three separate manners: (1) Haumea family members uniquely show surfaces of nearly pure water ice, presumably

The Properties and Origin of Kuiper Belt Object Arrokoth's Large Mounds

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal, 2023
We report on a study of the mounds that dominate the appearance of Kuiper Belt Object (486958) Arrokoth's larger lobe, named Wenu. We compare the geological context of these mounds and measure and intercompare their shapes, sizes/orientations ...

Chosen problems of terraforming Mars [PDF]

open access: yesPrzegląd Komunikacyjny
: Consideration was given to creating an atmosphere on Mars that would enable people to stay on the surface of Mars without spacesuits. The source of matter for this atmosphere are bodies brought from the outer zones of the Solar System.

The Hot Main Kuiper Belt Size Distribution from OSSOS

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
Using the absolute detection calibration and abundant detections of the Outer Solar System Origins Survey project, we provide population measurements for the main Kuiper Belt.

QUAOAR: A ROCK IN THE KUIPER BELT [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2010
Here we report WFPC2 observations of the Quaoar-Weywot Kuiper belt binary. From these observations we find that Weywot is on an elliptical orbit with eccentricity of 0.14 {\pm} 0.04, period of 12.438 {\pm} 0.005 days, and a semi-major axis of 1.45 {\pm} 0.08 {\times} 104 km.

The Kuiper Belt [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1994
The existence of a belt of comets in the outer solar system (the “Kuiper belt”) has been postulated for a variety of reasons, including the need for a source for the short-period comets. The existence of the belt seems supported by the discoveries of the trans-Neptunian objects 1992 QB1, 1993 FW, 1993 RO, 1993 RP, 1993 SB, and 1993 SC. If these objects

Hiding Dust around ϵ Eridani

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
With a Jupiter-like exoplanet and a debris disk with both asteroid and Kuiper Belt analogs, ϵ Eridani has a fascinating resemblance to our expectations for a young solar system.
