Swabbing as a Non‐Lethal DNA Collection Method for Earthworm Barcoding: Performance and Citizen Science Perspectives

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
Earthworm DNA barcoding commonly relies on lethal tissue sampling, which can discourage participation in citizen science projects due to emotional concerns. By comparing swab‐based and tissue‐based DNA collection methods, we show that swab sampling represents a promising, participant‐friendly option for citizen science–based earthworm biodiversity ...

Continuous Stem Water Potential Measurements With Microtensiometry Reveal Species Identity and Soil Matric Potential Control of Stem Water Potential in Temperate Forests

open access: yesEcohydrology, Volume 19, Issue 3, April/May 2026.
ABSTRACT Water potential gradients govern water fluxes, and plants respond with species‐specific hydraulic traits that influence ecosystem function. While understanding these traits is key to predicting vegetation responses to climate change, traditional methods like the pressure chamber limit temporal resolution and continuity.

Comparing Exciton–Plasmon Couplings in J‐Aggregate and TMD‐Based Hybrids Using Angle‐Resolved Two‐Dimensional Electronic Spectroscopy

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 8, 24 April 2026.
Polaritons—hybrid light‐matter states—allow for flexibly tailoring the optical response of materials. The authors compare ultrafast, two‐dimensional electronic spectroscopy studies of different classes of polaritons, formed by coupling a plasmonic grating to either excitons in a thin film of molecular J‐aggregates or a WS2 monolayer.

Breaking the Binary: Population Trajectories of German Small‐ and Medium‐Sized Towns From 2001–2022

open access: yesPopulation, Space and Place, Volume 32, Issue 3, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Between 2001 and 2022, Germany's overall growth rate averaged 0.2% per year. Yet, of the 3285 towns and cities with more than 5000 inhabitants, only 52 grew in all 21 years under consideration (1.6%); 85 (2.6%) shrank in all years, leaving 3148 (95.8%) with a combination of the two.

open access: yesTidsskrift for Omsorgsforskning

‘DIE WISSEN ALLE NOCH NICHT, WER DU BIST’: BODY NARRATIVE AND TRANS EMBODIMENT IN SABINE BERNARDI'S ROMEOS (2011)

open access: yesGerman Life and Letters, Volume 79, Issue 2, Page 184-202, April 2026.
Abstract This article examines the narrative structure of Romeos (Sabine Bernardi, 2011) through the lens of body narrative. While traditional body narrative emphasises the felt discomfort of being trapped in the ‘wrong body’, Romeos challenges this essentialist framework by foregrounding Lukas's trans identification and trans masculinities through an ...

KILLJOY POETICS IN ANTJE RÁVIK STRUBEL'S BLAUE FRAU (2021)

open access: yesGerman Life and Letters, Volume 79, Issue 2, Page 217-242, April 2026.
Abstract Drawing on Sara Ahmed's concept of killjoy activism, I explore how Antje Rávik Strubel's Blaue Frau employs a killjoy poetics that refuses to brush over violence, asymmetry, injury and force. Instead, the novel intervenes in affective textures of happiness and reconciliation, and forms activist and ecological networks of resistance. I build on
