Spatial and temporal variability of movements among sympatric salmonids in an unfragmented inland watershed. [PDF]

open access: yesTrans Am Fish Soc
Abstract Objective Our aim was to determine the movement patterns of three abundant salmonids—Brown Trout Salmo trutta, Mountain Whitefish Prosopium williamsoni, and Rainbow Trout Oncorhynchus mykiss—in the Smith River watershed of Montana. Methods We tagged 7172 fish with passive integrated transponder (PIT) tags, monitored their movements past 15 ...

Multi‐decadal stability of fish productivity despite increasing coral reef degradation

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 37, Issue 5, Page 1245-1255, May 2023., 2023
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Under current trajectories, it is unlikely that the coral reefs of the future will resemble those of the past. As multiple stressors, such as climate change and coastal development, continue to impact coral reefs, understanding the changes in ecosystem functioning is ...

A Ceramic‐Electrolyte Glucose Fuel Cell for Implantable Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 34, Issue 24, June 16, 2022., 2022
A ceramic‐electrolyte glucose fuel cell as a power source for implantable biomedical devices is introduced and demonstrated. The highly miniaturized device with a thickness below 400 nm exhibits a peak power density of 43 µW cm−2, is fully integrated into silicon, and consists of only ceramic and noble‐metal materials for easy sterilization.

The confidence‐accuracy relation – A comparison of metacognition measures in lie detection

open access: yesApplied Cognitive Psychology, Volume 36, Issue 3, Page 673-684, May/June 2022., 2022
Abstract Previous research has produced mixed results on the question of whether confidence in ad hoc veracity judgments can be used as an indicator of judgment accuracy. These studies have used a variety of measures to analyze the confidence‐accuracy relationship; however, they have rarely explicitly addressed why a particular measure was chosen and ...

Variable effects of wind‐energy development on seasonal habitat selection of pronghorn

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 12, Issue 12, December 2021., 2021
Abstract In the face of climate change, wind energy represents an important alternative to oil and gas extraction to meet increasing energy demands, but it has the potential to disrupt wildlife populations. Because behavioral adjustments, such as altered habitat selection, are a primary way that long‐lived species respond to novel disturbances, we ...

Automated facies identification by Direct Push‐based sensing methods (CPT, HPT) and multivariate linear discriminant analysis to decipher geomorphological changes and storm surge impact on a medieval coastal landscape

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 46, Issue 15, Page 3228-3251, December 2021., 2021
Presenting a new approach of automated facies identification based on palaeoenvironmental parameter (PEP) analyses of vibracores, Direct Push‐based Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) and the Hydraulic Profiling Tool (HPT) sensing data, linear discriminant analysis (LDA) and seismic measurements, gradual as well as extreme landscape changes associated with ...

Forging the Nation‐centric World: Imperial Rule and the Homogenisation of Discontent in Bosnia and Herzegovina (1878–1918)

open access: yesJournal of Historical Sociology, Volume 34, Issue 4, Page 665-687, December 2021., 2021
Abstract Historical sociologists have questioned the idea that nationalism and imperialism are mutually exclusive phenomena. In contrast to traditional historiography that depicted empires as ‘the prison houses of nations’ contemporary scholarship emphasises the structural and ideological ambiguities that characterised the 19th century European ...

Recent Visible Light and Metal Free Strategies in [2+2] and [4+2] Photocycloadditions

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, Volume 2021, Issue 22, Page 3303-3321, June 14, 2021., 2021
This Minireview seeks to highlight modern advances in the understanding of novel methodologies that open access to visible‐light‐mediated/metal free [2+2] and [4+2] cycloadditions. A collection of examples that displays reactivity and fundamental contributions in this fast‐evolving field of metal‐based photocatalysis; and could be used as a tool for ...

Impact of non‐CNS childhood cancer on resting‐state connectivity and its association with cognition

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 11, Issue 1, January 2021., 2021
Non‐CNS childhood cancer is associated with alterations in functional connectivity. In patients, we observed both hyper‐ and hypoconnectivity when compared with healthy controls, however, altered functional connectivity was found only in the right hemisphere.

Evaluating Artificial Propagation Release Strategies for Recovering Endangered Snake River Sockeye Salmon

open access: yesNorth American Journal of Aquaculture, Volume 82, Issue 3, Page 331-344, July 2020., 2020
Abstract As a growing number of aquatic organisms become imperiled due to anthropogenic and environmental threats, there is an increasing need to implement captive propagation programs to conserve some species. These captive propagation programs can aid in the recovery of species, such as for Sockeye Salmon Oncorhynchus nerka, by providing individuals ...
