Weighted entropy: basic inequalities

open access: yesModern Stochastics: Theory and Applications, 2017
This paper represents an extended version of an earlier note [10]. The concept of weighted entropy takes into account values of different outcomes, i.e., makes entropy context-dependent, through the weight function.

Evolution of the Minimax Inequality of Ky Fan [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Operators, 2013
There are quite a few generalizations or applications of the 1984 minimax inequality of Ky Fan compared with his original 1972 minimax inequality. In a certain sense, the relationship between the 1984 inequality and several hundreds of known generalizations of the original 1972 inequality has not been recognized for a long period.

Nash’s Existence Theorem for Non-Compact Strategy Sets

open access: yesMathematics
In this paper, we apply the classical FKKM lemma to obtain the Ky Fan minimax inequality defined on nonempty non-compact convex subsets in reflexive Banach spaces, and then we apply it to game theory and obtain Nash’s existence theorem for non-compact ...

Generalization of a Matrix Inequality of Ky Fan

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 1995
The authors give some new and interesting inequalities for matrices. One of the main results is: Let \(f : I \subset \mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R}\) be a convex function and \(A_j\), \(j = 1, \ldots, k\), are Hermitian matrices with eigenvalues in \(I\), \(x_j \in \mathbb{C}^n\), \(j = 1, \ldots, k\), with \(\sum^k_{j = 1} (x_j, x_j) = 1\). Then \[ f \left(

Generalized Bi-Quasivariational Inequalities for Quasi-Pseudomonotone Type II Operators on Noncompact Sets

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2010
We prove some existence results of solutions for a new class of generalized bi-quasivariational inequalities (GBQVI) for quasi-pseudomonotone type II and strongly quasi-pseudomonotone type II operators defined on noncompact sets in locally convex ...

A new approach to Ky Fan‐type inequalities [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2005
The study of the behavior of means under equal increments of their variables provides a new approach to Ky Fan‐type inequalities. Via this approach we are able to prove some new results on Ky Fan‐type inequalities. We also prove some inequalities involving the symmetric means.

The Evolution and Integration of ESG Reporting: A Framework for Sustainable Business Accountability

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines how multinational corporations incorporate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting frameworks to foster trust, enhance legitimacy, and move beyond mere symbolic disclosure. A qualitative comparison of Microsoft and Unilever from 2020 to 2023 assesses how both firms integrate leading standards, including GRI ...

A new refinement of the Ky Fan inequality [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical Inequalities & Applications, 1999
Let \(A_n( \underline x), G_n( \underline x), I_n( \underline x)\) denote, respectively, the arithmetic, geometric and identric means of the positive \(n\)-tuple \(\underline x\). The famous Ky Fan inequality is: if \( 0< a_i\leq 1/2, 1\leq 2\leq n\) and if \(b_i = 1- a_i, 1\leq i\leq n\) then \(G_n( \underline a)\big/ G_n( \underline b)\leq A_n ...

Systemic bio‐inequity links poverty to biodiversity and induces a conservation paradox

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Biodiversity is declining globally while inequity is growing, and poverty rates are not improving. Global sustainable development and conservation initiatives aim to address biodiversity loss and poverty simultaneously. Through text analysis of global biodiversity policies, we identified a consistent narrative that countries with high ...
