Operator Ky Fan type inequalities [PDF]

open access: yesLinear Algebra and its Applications, 2018
In this paper, we extend some significant Ky Fan type inequalities in a large setting to operators on Hilbert spaces and derive their equality conditions. Among other things, we prove that if $f:[0,\infty)\rightarrow[0,\infty)$ is an operator monotone function with $f (1) = 1$, $f'(1)=μ$, and associated mean $σ$, then for all operators $A$ and $B$ on a

Plant biostimulants and their potential role in achieving the United Nations sustainable development goals

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Plant biostimulants are substances that are obtained from a variety of sources and are applied in minute quantities to enhance plant growth and vigor. In this review we detail how the use of plant biostimulants may contribute to efforts to achieving a number of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

On an inequality of Ky Fan

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 1989
Two proofs are offered for the inequality \[ x_ 1^{1/n}x_ 2^{1/n}...x_ n^{1/n}(1-x_ 1)^{-1/n}(1-x_ 2)^{-1/n}...(1- x_ n)^{-1/n}\leq (x_ 1+x_ 2+...+x_ n)(n-x_ 1-x_ 2-x_ n)^{-1} \] (x\({}_ k\in]0,1/2]\), \(k=1,2,...,n)\) with \(= iff\) \(x_ 1=x_ 2=...=x_ n\). From Place to Platform: Extended Global Cities Theory for Transnational Cultural Diffusion

open access: yesBritish Journal of Management, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigates how global city characteristics shape the acceptance of non‐mainstream cultural goods—focusing on K‐pop—as they diffuse across digital platforms. While prior research emphasizes fandom, soft power or media strategies, this research highlights the role of urban infrastructure in cultural globalization.

On Some Analogues of Ky Fan-type Inequalities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We study the behavior of means under equal increments of their variables and we apply the results to Ky Fan-type inequalities and certain bounds for the differences of means.

Ky Fan inequalities

open access: yesLinear and Multilinear Algebra, 2011
There are several inequalities in the literature carrying the name of Ky Fan. We survey these well-known Ky Fan inequalities and some other significant inequalities generalized by Ky Fan and review some of their recent developments.

What England Is and What It Claims to Be: Orwell on National Identity

open access: yesThe Political Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract This article suggests that George Orwell's body of work offers a rather unique and insightful two‐part conception of national identity in the context of England, made up of a moral inheritance—the values of liberty, fairness and decency—and a lived sensibility—the fluid, experiential quality of collective life expressed in shared customs ...

Solution for the system of generalized nonlinear mixed variational inequality problems

open access: yesDemonstratio Mathematica
We propose in this paper a class of generalized nonlinear mixed variational inequality problems on Banach spaces, which is composed of three elliptic generalized nonlinear mixed variational inequality problems.

Exploring the associations of generalized trust, climate change conspiracy beliefs and freecycling: Empirical evidence from 34 cultures

open access: yesBritish Journal of Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract This study examined the relationships between generalized trust, climate change conspiracy beliefs and freecycling – a community‐based free‐item sharing pro‐environmental behaviour. It also explored the role of societal factors in relation to participation in freecycling, as well as how they are associated with these relationships.

Estimating Velocities of Infectious Disease Spread Through Spatio‐Temporal Log‐Gaussian Cox Point Processes

open access: yesInternational Statistical Review, EarlyView.
Summary Understanding the spread of infectious diseases such as COVID‐19 is crucial for informed decision‐making and resource allocation. A critical component of disease behaviour is the velocity with which disease spreads, defined as the rate of change between time and space.
