Pre-asymptotic analysis of Lévy flights [PDF]
We study the properties of Lévy flights with index 0 < α < 2 at elapsed times smaller than those required for reaching the diffusive limit and we focus on the bulk of the walkers’ distribution rather than on its tails.

Front dynamics in a two-species competition model driven by Lévy flights
A number of recent studies suggest that many biological species follow a Lévy random walk in their search for food. Such a strategy has been shown to be more efficient than classical Brownian motion when resources are scarce.

Judaism, Philo, and Hegel's Theology
Abstract Hegel displays consistent interest in Judaism, but his presentation seems to differ widely between his earlier and later writings. Contemporary scholarly interpretations of this apparent change also differ widely. Scholars such as Graham Harman and Timothy Morton have positioned themselves as critics of these lyric sensibilities. In recent years, concerns have risen around their critiques

Tempered Superdiffusive Shock Acceleration at a Perpendicular Shock
A theory for steady-state tempered superdiffusive shock acceleration of energetic particles at a plane perpendicular shock is presented that involves solving analytically a tempered fractional Parker transport equation for perpendicular transport in ...

Random walks, Lévy flights, Markov chains and metaheuristic optimization
Stochastic components such as random walks have become an intrinsic part of modern metaheursitic algorithms. The efficiency of a metaheuristic algorithm may implicitly depend on the appropriate use of such randomization.

AI Alignment Versus AI Ethical Treatment: 10 Challenges
ABSTRACT A morally acceptable course of AI development should avoid two dangers: creating unaligned AI systems that pose a threat to humanity and mistreating AI systems that merit moral consideration in their own right. This paper argues these two dangers interact and that if we create AI systems that merit moral consideration, simultaneously avoiding ...
