MeerKAT Primary-beam Measurements in the L Band

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2022
Abstract Full-polarization primary-beam patterns of MeerKAT antennas have been measured in the L band (856–1711MHz) by means of radio holography using celestial targets. This paper presents the observed frequency-dependent properties of these beams and guides users of this 64 antenna radio telescope that are concerned by its direction ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

The L-Band solar flux retrieval from the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission: Theoretical algorithm and its validation

open access: yesJournal of Space Weather and Space Climate
The Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite, launched in November 2009, is equipped with the Microwave Imaging Radiometer with Aperture Synthesis (MIRAS) payload, which collects high temporal resolution polarimetric data at 1.413 GHz (L-band ...

Integration of SMAP and SMOS L-band observations [PDF]

open access: yes2017 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2017
Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) mission and the ESA Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) missions provide brightness temperature and soil moisture estimates every 2–3 days. SMAP brightness temperature observations were compared with SMOS observations at 40° incidence angle. The brightness temperatures from the two missions are not consistent and

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Benchmarking the Retrieval of Biomass in Boreal Forests Using P-Band SAR Backscatter with Multi-Temporal C- and L-Band Observations

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
The planned launch of a spaceborne P-band radar mission and the availability of C- and L-band data from several spaceborne missions suggest investigating the complementarity of C-, L-, and P-band backscatter with respect to the retrieval of forest above ...

L-Band Reflectivity of a Furrowed Soil Surface [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2011
In a combined experimental and model study, we investigated the thermal L-band signatures of a sandy soil with periodic topography (furrows) with dimensions close to the observation wavelength of 21 cm. Measurements were carried out with a radiometer mounted on a tower and aimed at a soil box with an artificially prepared furrowed soil surface ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
