Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Radial variation of heat transport in L-mode JET discharges

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2019
In this paper, we analyze heat transport in the JET tokamak using data from its high resolution ECE diagnostic and analyses based on the transfer entropy (TE). The analysis reveals that heat transport is not smooth and continuous, but is characterized by 'trapping regions' separated by 'minor transport barriers'. Heat may 'jump over' these barriers and

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Dimensionality correct power law scaling expressions for L-mode confinement

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 1991
Confinement scalings of divertor and radiofrequency heated discharges are shown to differ significantly from the standard neutral beam heated limiter scaling. The random coefficient two stage regression algorithm is applied to a neutral beam heated limiter subset of the ITER L mode database as well as a combined dataset.

External cavity mode structure of a two-mode VCSEL subject to optical feedback

open access: yes, 2007
We consider a multi-transverse-mode vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) subject to optical feedback. The system is modeled by a partial differential equation for the spatial carrier population, which is coupled to delay differential equations ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Axisymmetric oscillations at L-H transitions in JET: M-mode

open access: yes, 2017
L to H transition studies at JET have revealed an n = 0, m = 1 magnetic oscillation starting immediately at the L to H transition (called M-mode for brevity).

Sliding Mode Control for Slosh-Free Motion using a Nonlinear Sliding Surface [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A new nonlinear switching surface is proposed for the design of a sliding mode controller for a class of mismatched uncertain systems. A control system for slosh-free motion of a partially filled liquid container is sought.
