The bimodality of the East Siberian fast ice extent: mechanisms and changes
Using operational sea-ice maps, we provide first insight into the seasonal evolution of fast ice in the East Siberian Sea for the period between 1999 and 2021.

Divertor Heat Load in ASDEX Upgrade L-Mode in Presence of External Magnetic Perturbation [PDF]
Power exhaust is one of the major challenges for a future fusion device. Applying a non-axisymmetric external magnetic perturbation is one technique that is studied in order to mitigate or suppress large edge localized modes which accompany the high ...

Perturbative momentum transport in MAST L-mode plasmas
Non-axisymmetric magnetic fields are used to perturbatively probe momentum transport physics in MAST L-mode plasmas. The low beta L-mode target was chosen to complement previous experiments conducted in high beta NSTX H-mode plasmas (β N = 3.5-4.6) where an inward momentum pinch was measured.

Nitrogen-seeded divertor detachment in TCV L-mode plasmas [PDF]
Most of the detachment experiments done to date on the tokamak à configuration variable (TCV), both in standard and alternative divertor geometries, focused on L-mode integrated core density ramps. In view of extending these studies to high-power, high-confinement regimes, where impurity seeding will be necessary for detachment, the properties of ...

Charge dependence of neoclassical and turbulent transport of light impurities on MAST [PDF]
Carbon and nitrogen impurity transport coefficients are determined from gas puff experiments carried out during repeat L-mode discharges on the Mega-Amp Spherical Tokamak (MAST) and compared against a previous analysis of helium impurity transport on ...

Light impurity transport in JET ILW L-mode plasmas [PDF]
A series of experimental observations of light impurity profiles was carried out in JET (Joint European Torus) ITER-like wall (ILW) L-mode plasmas in order to investigate their transport mechanisms. These discharges feature the presence of 3He, Be, C, N, Ne, whose profiles measured by active Charge Exchange diagnostics are compared with quasi-linear ...

Meander, Folding and Arch Statistics [PDF]
The statistics of meander and related problems are studied as particular realizations of compact polymer chain foldings. This paper presents a general discussion of these topics, with a particular emphasis on three points: (i) the use of a direct ...
