Estimation of drought rainfall using L-moments

Irrigation and Drainage, 2005

Gaussian Centered L-moments

2017
As various types of media currently generate so-called big data, data visualization faces the challenge of selecting a few representative variables that best summarize important structure inherent in data. The conventional moments-based summary statistics can be useful for the purpose of variable screening.

Testing Distributional Assumptions: A L-Moment Approach

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2008
Stein (1972, 1986) provides a flexible method for measuring the deviation of any probability distribution from a given distribution, thus effectively giving the upper bound of the approximation error which can be represented as the expectation of a Stein's operator.

L-Moments of Residual Life and Partial Moments

2013
The residual life distribution and various descriptive measures derived from it form the basis of modelling, characterization and ageing concepts in reliability theory. Of these, the moment-based descriptive measures such as mean, variance and coefficient of variation of residual life and their quantile forms were all discussed earlier in Chaps.

Frequency Analysis of Upper Cauvery Flood Data by L-Moments

Water Resources Management, 1994
The objectives of the present study are to investigate the hydrological homogeneity of Upper Cauvery annual maximum flow data and to select a suitable distribution for the frequency analysis. The L-moments method is used in this analysis. The Upper Cauvery river basin is shown to be hydrologically heterogeneous.

On the Sensitivity of Sample L Moments to Sample Size

Journal of Climate, 1994
Abstract Parametric probability distributions can be fit to a dataset by equating sample L moments to those Of the fitted distribution. This study examines the mean and mean squared departures of sample L moments of monthly precipitation data from large sample values as sample size increases.

Characterisation of global precipitation frequency through the L‐moments approach

Area, 2012
Higher‐order statistics, such as skewness and kurtosis, are useful measures to describe the shape of a probability distribution. In hydrology, the assessment of these parameters is an important step for representing precipitation frequencies and understanding rainfall variability.

Estimation and Tests Under L-Moment Condition Models

2013
We propose estimators defined thanks to the minimization of an “energy” functional for a semi-parametric model defined by L-moment equations. This is an adaptation for the L-moments framework of the estimation through the minimization of a divergence with moment condition models.
