Bootstrapping the Small Sample Critical Values of the Rescaled Range Statistic [PDF]

open access: yes
Finite sample critical values of the rescaled range or R/S statistic may be obtained by bootstrapping. The empirical size and power performance of these critical values is good. Using the post blackened, moving block bootstrap helps to replicate the time

Hierarchical Gaussian Filtering of Sufficient Statistic Time Series for Active Inference

open access: yes, 2020
Active inference relies on state-space models to describe the environments that agents sample with their actions. These actions lead to state changes intended to minimize future surprise.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Development and validation of Prediction models for Risks of complications in Early-onset Pre-eclampsia (PREP): a prospective cohort study

open access: yesHealth Technology Assessment, 2017
Background: The prognosis of early-onset pre-eclampsia (before 34 weeks’ gestation) is variable. Accurate prediction of complications is required to plan appropriate management in high-risk women.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Simulated adjustment of the signed scoring rule root statistic

open access: yes, 2015
We focus on adjustments of the signed scoring rule root statistic generalizing results for likelihood quantities. In particular, for a scalar parameter of interest, we investigate a bootstrap adjustment of the signed scoring rule root statistic.

Two sides of the same coin: the F-statistic and the 5-vector method [PDF]

open access: yes
This work explores the relation between two data-analysis methods used in the search for continuous gravitational waves in LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA data: the F-statistic and the 5-vector method.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.
