Statistic parameter mappings of event-related potentials revealed the processing of Chinese characters

open access: yes, 2000
Here we reported a research concerning the visual processing of Chinese characters. We recorded 29-channel EEG from 24 normal subjects when they were performing three tasks: orthographic task, phonological task, and semantic task. We compared the ERPs of

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Association of baseline serum sodium with long-term outcomes in newly diagnosed coronary heart disease patients without heart failure: a prospective cohort study

open access: yesScientific Reports
Sodium is crucial for maintaining cardiovascular health, especially in relation to heart failure. The impact of baseline serum sodium concentrations on the outcomes of newly diagnosed coronary heart disease (CHD) without heart failure remains unclear ...

The effect of monolaurin in combination with Mentha pulegium L. and Mentha spicata L. essential oils on Bacillus cereus and E. coli O157:H7: in vitro study [PDF]

open access: yesĀsīb/shināsī-i Darmāngāhī-i Dāmpizishkī, 2010
Monolaurin, pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium L., Labiatae) and spearmint (Mentha spicata L.) essential oils have various antibacterial activities on microorganisms. Enhancement of antibacterial activity and detection of their combined effects on B.cereus ATCC

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Mediterranean offshore extreme wind analysis from the 44-year HIPOCAS database: different approaches towards the estimation of return periods and levels of extreme values [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Geosciences, 2006
The present contribution addresses the performance of a statistical extreme wind analysis over the whole Mediterranean Basin. Estimations of return periods and levels are obtained over offshore areas through analysis of annual wind maxima. An alternative
