The roles of attention and L2 proficiency in L2 perceptual cue weighting
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of AmericaThis study investigated how availability of attentional resources and listeners' inhibitory control (IC) affect cue weighting in L2 vowel categorization and whether the effects vary with L2 proficiency. Thirty-five Chinese L2 learners of English categorized sounds from the English /ɛ/-/æ/ and /i/-/ɪ/ continua under low and high load.

Comparing child L2 development with adult L2 development: How to measure L2 proficiency
2008Most studies investigating the role of age in L2 acquisition compare L2 children and adults in terms of ultimate attainment (e.g. Johnson & Newport 1989). This paper addresses some of the methodological and conceptual issues which arise when, following Schwartz (1992), such a comparison is made in terms of development.
